PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cracker Jack (ranked 4568 p4p, 4507 weight class) and Dominick Reyes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cracker Jack!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dominick Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Reyes defending well as Jack loads up on a big left hand.
Reyes ducks under a wild hook from Jack.
Reyes shoots for a double leg takedown but Jack sprawls well. He's pushed Reyes's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Reyes dives in and grabs Jack's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jack pushes down on Reyes's head and hops out.
Jack misses with a hook. Reyes ducked under it nicely.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Reyes has eaten all the pies!
Jack rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Reyes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Jack throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Reyes changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Cracker Jack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reyes defending well as Jack loads up on a big left hand.
Reyes tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A slow jab from Jack misses its intended target.
Jack tries to clinch up.
Jack misses with a leg kick

and Reyes counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jack is pressing down on Reyes's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Reyes throws an elbow that misses. Jack uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Reyes's guard. Nice move by Jack!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jack wants to get up but he can't break Reyes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Reyes pulls Jack in to control the position.
Jack would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Jack trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Reyes is adopting a defensive guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Reyes has a closed guard, preventing Jack from standing up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Reyes displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Jack throws out the jab.

Reyes looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Reyes trying to control the action but Jack is working from the bottom.

Reyes with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Reyes not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Reyes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Jack is trying to stand.
Reyes missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Reyes is stalling here. Jack is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Reyes seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Jack has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Jack will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Reyes is trying to control Jack's posture but Jack avoids it.

Jack tries to stand but Reyes is controlling his head.
Reyes is trying to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cracker Jack dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Jack throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Reyes.
Reyes blocks a jab.

Reyes fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jack to the ground. Reyes is now in Jack's guard.

Reyes controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jack has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Jack on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jack tries to get out of the position.
Reyes throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Reyes is working Jack over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Reyes goes for a double leg but Jack avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Jack continues to drive forward.
Jack throws a hook to the side of Reyes's head but Reyes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jack misses with a looping right.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Reyes tries for a takedown but Jack sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Reyes gets a takedown into half guard.
Jack is refusing to be controlled, as Reyes sits in half guard.
Jack is looking to escape.
Reyes stalling.
Jack is trying to stand back up but Reyes is controlling him

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jack is trying to get back to full guard.
Reyes trying to control from Jack's half guard. Jack has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Reyes trying to control the position from guard on top but Jack is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Reyes throwing strikes from guard but Jack blocks nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Reyes slips a jab from Jack.
Jack is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Reyes.
Jack is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reyes can do to turn this around?

Reyes drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Reyes working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Reyes looking to sit in guard and control but Jack gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Reyes is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Jack wants to stand but Reyes has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Reyes pulls Jack in to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Cracker Jack will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Reyes changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Jack tries to avoid it but Reyes manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Jack to the ground. Jack escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jack is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Reyes.

and Reyes counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jack wants to control but Reyes is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Jack is trying to get back to full guard.

Reyes seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Reyes lands with a punch from half guard.

Reyes uses his free foot to push down on Jack's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jack.
Jack is squirming around, avoiding Reyes's attempts to control the action.
Reyes throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Reyes sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Jack is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Reyes trying to control but Jack is having none of it.
Reyes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jack is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Jack is wriggling around trying to escape.
Reyes controlling from the full mount.
Jack wants to hold on but Reyes pushes him away.
Reyes looking to control but Jack is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Reyes takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Reyes avoids the attempt from Jack to control.
Reyes can't control as he wanted to and Jack manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dominick Reyes comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jack has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
