PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Newton Diaz (ranked 4634 p4p, 5924 weight class) and Kuba Dog (ranked 533 p4p, 613 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Newton Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kuba Dog!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Aleksandr Martynov and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dog tries to close the distance and clinch up but Diaz swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Dog avoids them all with ease.

Dog slips a jab and a cross from Diaz.
Kuba Dog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dog shoots in and drives through. Diaz sprawls well.

Diaz clinches with his opponent.
Dog misses with the head strike.
Dog is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Diaz gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Diaz is trying to trip Dog. He has hold of a leg but Dog is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Diaz persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Dog is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Dog has his foot on Diaz's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Diaz works his way back into a safe position though.

Diaz has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Diaz got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dog has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Diaz has managed to get both his arms back between Dog's legs - danger averted.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Diaz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Dog for as long as he can get away with.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Dog is defended easily by Diaz.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Diaz fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Dog to the ground. Diaz is now in Dog's guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Dog cracks Diaz with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Diaz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Diaz leaves Dog with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Nice uppercut there from Dog.
Horrible takedown attempt by Dog or perhaps it was just good defense by Diaz, which made it look bad.

Diaz gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Dog tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Diaz smiles and moves away.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Dog tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Diaz is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Dog looks calm but he's in trouble here. Diaz gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Dog is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Diaz lets go of the hold and Dog can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Newton Diaz!
