The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lemieux misses the shot to the body. Lemieux throws a lazy right hand but Cruz Jr sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Lemieux thows a left - swing and a miss! Cruz Jr blocks a jab. Lemieux misses with a body shot.
Cruz Jr swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lemieux misses with a body shot.
Cruz Jr throws a right and a left that both miss. Lemieux dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

We've been informed that Cruz Jr has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Lemieux misses with an uppercut. Lemieux throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cruz Jr looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it. Vincent Lemieux seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lemieux dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Lemieux throws a predictable looking body shot

That's two minutes gone in the round. Lemieux throws a shot from downtown. Cruz Jr moves away and avoids it. It seemed like Cruz Jr was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Jorge Cruz Jr decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
