PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pavel Sekera (ranked 2866 p4p, 2472 weight class) and Simon Poulter (ranked 319 p4p, 286 weight class). Sekera kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bleed it out. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pavel Sekera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Simon Poulter!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice jab there from Poulter.
A lazy left from Sekera finds it's target.
A head kick misses from Poulter.
Poulter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sekera avoids it really well and circles away.
Poulter misses with a head kick.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Sekera.
Sekera misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Poulter tries to counter with a clinch but Sekera shakes him off and moves away.
Poulter just misses with a punch to the body.
Poulter has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Sekera doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Poulter pushes Sekera up against the cage in a clinch.
Poulter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sekera's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Sekera shoots for a takedown but Poulter saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pavel Sekera. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Poulter misses with a body shot.
Poulter tries a head kick but it misses.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Sekera digs a good body shot into Poulter's ribs.

Sekera tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Poulter swivels and escapes.
Poulter connects with a body shot that sends Sekera's belly button to the back.
Poulter cracks Sekera with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Poulter misses with a straight left.
Sekera has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Sekera ducks right into an uppercut from Poulter.
Poulter looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Sekera tries to close the distance and clinch up but Poulter swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sekera closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Poulter did well to prevent Sekera getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Poulter has one foot on Sekera's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sekera keeps the fight on the outside.
Poulter is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Sekera.

Sekera gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Poulter breaks the clinch.
Sekera walks into a jab.

Sekera closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Poulter bucks up and tries to throw Sekera off but instead Sekera has got his back!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Sekera lands with a hammerfist to the side of Poulter's head.

Poulter is trying to shake Sekera off. He's managed it and has hopped back to his feet! Sekera won't be happy about giving up the dominant position.
Sekera tries to clinch up.
Sekera tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Poulter swivels and escapes.
A big right from Poulter misses.
Sekera shoots in for a takedown but Poulter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Poulter scores with a shot to the body.
Sekera is breathing heavily.
Poulter scores with a hook.
Poulter looks to score with a jab to the body but Sekera is just out of range.
Sekera keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Poulter.
Poulter displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sekera.
Poulter swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Poulter looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Sekera tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Poulter manages to circle out of the way.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sekera keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Poulter wants to clinch up but Sekera keeps it at a distance.
A head kick misses from Poulter.

Sekera gets tackled into the cage by Poulter. Poulter maintains the clinch.

Poulter breaks from the clinch.
Sekera avoids the body shot from Poulter.
A shot to the body from Poulter misses
and Sekera counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Poulter tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sekera was well out of range. Poor timing from Poulter.
Sekera tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Poulter manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Sekera walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Sekera misses with a takedown attempt - Poulter sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Poulter drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Sekera defends it well.
Poulter has his takedown stuffed

and Sekera counters by clinching up.

Poulter breaks from the clinch.
Poulter doesn't manage to clinch there - Sekera circles away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Poulter misses with a looping right.
Poulter fails in his attempt to clinch.
Poulter is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sekera lands an overhand right.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Sekera closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sekera is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Poulter gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Poulter managing to block the knees to the body from Sekera.
Poulter wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sekera escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Sekera takes the fight into the clinch.
Sekera lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Poulter backwards.
Poulter tries to break free but Sekera pushes him back against the cage.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Poulter wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Sekera lands an elbow that stopped Poulter in his tracks for a moment.
A head punch on the inside from Poulter fails to land.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Simon Poulter dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Sekera takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Poulter moves into the clinch.

Sekera jumps guard and drags Poulter to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Poulter wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Sekera's closed guard. He's half up but Sekera has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Sekera pivots and extends the arm, Poulter falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Sekera! Well done that man!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:29 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Pavel Sekera!
Pavel Sekera tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
