PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Maximus Mwekassa (ranked 2445 p4p, 2089 weight class) and Peter Parker (ranked 283 p4p, 237 weight class). This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Maximus Mwekassa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Peter Parker!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Parker misses with a hook.
Parker misses with a wild body shot.
Mwekassa throws a big shot that misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Parker. Mwekassa does a little dance to reset his feet.
Mwekassa throws a right and a left that Parker avoids nicely.
Parker swings away with a body shot that misses
and Mwekassa counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Parker closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mwekassa did well to prevent Parker getting side control.
Parker not doing much here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Parker seems to be working for a kimura but Mwekassa defends the submission attempt.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Mwekassa tries to kick Parker off but Parker keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Parker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
It looks like Parker might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Parker has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Parker postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mwekassa looks a forlorn figure.
Parker tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Parker has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Mwekassa's face.

Mwekassa tries to lock up and control but Parker gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Mwekassa tries to hold on but Parker pushes him away.

Mwekassa is looking to improve his position but Parker isn't that keen on the idea.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Parker lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Parker let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Mwekassa went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Mwekassa leaves Parker with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Parker throws a series of punches but Mwekassa avoids them all with ease.
Parker blocks a head kick by Mwekassa.
Parker fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Mwekassa manages to avoid it.
Mwekassa swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Parker swings for the body but Mwekassa moves out of range.
Mwekassa scores with a nice head shot.

A decent looking cross lands there for Parker.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mwekassa enables Parker to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mwekassa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mwekassa is trying to keep Parker in close.

Mwekassa wants to sweep here but Parker controlling him for the moment.
Parker not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Parker stands up over Mwekassa, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Parker content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Mwekassa on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mwekassa tries to get out of the position.
Parker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Parker has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Parker slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

You can see the frustration on Mwekassa's face as Parker controls the position.
Parker has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Parker lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Parker tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Parker has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mwekassa is working to avoid the ground and pound but Parker connects with a decent elbow.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Mwekassa scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Mwekassa swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Maximus Mwekassa is winning the standup battle so far.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Parker.
It looked like Mwekassa wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Maximus Mwekassa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Parker.

Mwekassa fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Parker, pushing him back against the cage.
Parker tries to score a body lock takedown but Mwekassa shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Mwekassa throws a head punch that misses.
Mwekassa is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Mwekassa is trying to maintain a safe position but Parker gets an underhook and turns Mwekassa into the cage.
Maximus Mwekassa has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Parker will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Mwekassa up against the cage.
Parker tries to circle away but Mwekassa has him pinned against the cage.

Parker manages to break the clinch.
Parker fails with a takedown attempt.
Mwekassa scores with a head kick.
Mwekassa avoids the body shot from Parker.
Parker throws a lazy uppercut
and Mwekassa makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Mwekassa connects with the punch.
Parker throws a body punch but Mwekassa moves out of range.
Parker fails with the takedown.
Parker shoots in looking for a takedown. Mwekassa tries to sprawl out of it but Parker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mwekassa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mwekassa throws a head kick that Parker semi-blocks.
Parker changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Parker escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Maximus Mwekassa is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Parker thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Mwekassa's head.

Parker content to control rather than advance.
Peter Parker is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

I think Parker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
