This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 31 wins and 22 losses; Dado Mata!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.


The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Mata misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Mata closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Cruz is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Punch Out Gym, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Mata sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cruz's guard.

Let's hope that Mata has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Mata is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cruz defends it well.

It looks like Mata might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Cruz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mata can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mata got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cruz has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mata has managed to get both his arms back between Cruz's legs - danger averted.

Mata is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Cruz knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cruz has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.

Mata has the hooks in. Cruz is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Mata is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Cruz defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Will Mata go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
