PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Start (ranked 5754 p4p, 6314 weight class) and Lee Kevin (ranked 533 p4p, 567 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Matthew Start!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lee Kevin!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Robert Twigg and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kevin rushes Start and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Kevin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Start avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Start blocks a body shot from Kevin.
Start is trying to break the clinch but Kevin has him pressed against the cage.

Start working aggressively here.
Start misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Come on Start - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Start for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Start leaning his opponent against the cage.
Start gets a warning from the ref for wasting time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Start gets through Kevin's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Start.

Kevin has Start pushed against the cage.
Start gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Kevin.

Kevin tightens his grip and picks Start up, before dumping him to the ground. Start manages to land in guard.
Start tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kevin is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Start is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kevin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Start looking for a sweep. Not yet Start, not yet.
Start really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Start manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kevin manages to get himself to full guard.

Start postures up in Kevin's guard and throws a big left but Kevin blocks it.

Start preventing the sweep.
Start seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Start will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kevin has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Start looking to sit in guard and control but Kevin gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Start can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kevin controls the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
It looks like Kevin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Start is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Kevin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kevin is working Start over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

A close round but Lee Kevin will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Start - that will leave a mark!
Start looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Start is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Kevin is aware though and is defending well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Kevin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Kevin drops down looking for an ankle pick but Start pulls his leg out and moves away.
Kevin shoots for a takedown but Start saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Kevin shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Start is trying to defend but Kevin finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Start wants to get back to full guard.

Start trying to control from the bottom.
Kevin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Kevin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kevin perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Start wants to get back to his feet.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Kevin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Start throws a sloppy head kick
and Kevin counters with a one-two to the body.
Kevin swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Kevin throws a leg kick but Start sees it coming and moves out of range.
Kevin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kevin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Start circles away quickly and effectively.
Start wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Kevin closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Start quickly recovers to half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Start is trying to control but can't.

Kevin's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Start taking some punishment here, with Kevin in his half guard.

Kevin is nestled in close to Start, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Start is trying to get back to full guard.
Start is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Kevin content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Kevin takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Start is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Matthew Start has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Start is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Kevin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Kevin's back!

Start is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Kevin defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Kevin looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Lee Kevin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Start has the hooks in. Kevin is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Lee Kevin is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Start is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Kevin has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.

I've got Kevin winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
