PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 25174 p4p, 24878 weight class) and Thrawn Palpatine (ranked 711 p4p, 701 weight class). Palpatine has chosen The Imperial March as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Nate Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Thrawn Palpatine!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palpatine throws a half hearted mid kick.
Palpatine slaps away a takedown attempt from Diaz, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Palpatine tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Palpatine decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Diaz trying to hold on to Palpatine's head to control him but Palpatine postures up.
Palpatine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Diaz. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Palpatine tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Diaz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Well, if Palpatine is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Diaz actively working from the bottom here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz wants to control but Palpatine is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Palpatine tries to pass to full mount but Diaz defends it.
Palpatine not doing much here.
It looks like Palpatine might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Palpatine performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Palpatine shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Palpatine in particular looking to stall.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Diaz is defending against the submission attempts here by Palpatine.
Diaz wants to control but Palpatine is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Diaz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Palpatine throws a big elbow that misses.
Palpatine would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Diaz misses with a series of wild punches.
Diaz sets himself, and Palpatine steps forward looking for the clinch! Diaz avoids it this time.
Palpatine stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Palpatine wants it to stay on the feet.
Diaz misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Diaz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Palpatine cracks Diaz with a right hand to the side of the head.
Diaz throws a shot from downtown. Palpatine moves away and avoids it.
Diaz misses with an uppercut. Palpatine saw that one coming.
Diaz throws a right and a left that Palpatine avoids nicely.
Diaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Palpatine moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Palpatine feints the counter takedown.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Palpatine gets a takedown into half guard.
Diaz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Thrawn Palpatine dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Palpatine drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Diaz is looking to reverse the position.
Diaz is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Palpatine off and has taken his back!

Palpatine preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Diaz.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Palpatine trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Palpatine is really stuck here.

Diaz working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Palpatine is doing well to defend. Diaz seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Palpatine is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Nate Diaz!
