Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jay Cartwright (ranked 2561 p4p, 2723 weight class) and Claes Ragnvaldsson (ranked 128 p4p, 135 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Cartwright!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Claes Ragnvaldsson!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ragnvaldsson throws a combination that misses

so Cartwright counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ragnvaldsson keeping moving, preventing Cartwright from controlling successfully.
Cartwright is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ragnvaldsson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Ragnvaldsson controlling the position.
Cartwright wants to control from the top but Ragnvaldsson keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cartwright looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
We've been hearing good reports from Cartwright's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Cartwright drops back looking for a leg! Ragnvaldsson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ragnvaldsson manages to kick Cartwright off! Cartwright jumps back into Ragnvaldsson's guard.

Cartwright thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Ragnvaldsson manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Cartwright tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ragnvaldsson defends well and Cartwright ends up having to push Ragnvaldsson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Cartwright drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Ragnvaldsson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Ragnvaldsson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cartwright goes for a double leg but Ragnvaldsson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ragnvaldsson continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jay Cartwright. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Ragnvaldsson breaks from the clinch.
Cartwright tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ragnvaldsson swivels and escapes.
Cartwright takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Cartwright goes for a double leg but Ragnvaldsson avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ragnvaldsson continues to drive forward.
Ragnvaldsson swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Ragnvaldsson breaks the clinch.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cartwright is defended easily by Ragnvaldsson.
Ragnvaldsson connects with a body shot that sends Cartwright's belly button to the back.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cartwright blocks the strikes from Ragnvaldsson.

Cartwright is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ragnvaldsson is just riding it out for now. Cartwright eventually gives up the hold.
Cartwright prevents Ragnvaldsson from standing back up.
Cartwright is looking to take a break and control but Ragnvaldsson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ragnvaldsson is concentrating on defense, preventing Cartwright from advancing position.

Cartwright in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Ragnvaldsson tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Cartwright!
