Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Harry Winks (ranked 1917 p4p, 1660 weight class) and Grey Ape (ranked 248 p4p, 212 weight class). Grey Ape is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Grey Ape!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Winks takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Winks fails in his attempt to clinch.
Winks tries to bum rush Ape with a series of wild strikes but Ape uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ape tried to score with a low kick but Winks checks it.

Ape throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Winks.
Ape swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Winks fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Ape has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

I was talking to Winks's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Ape has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Winks is working away from the top position though.
Ape is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Winks's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Winks's back!

I would not like to be Winks right now.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Winks is really stuck here.

That was a close round but I would say that Harry Winks will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Ape clinches.

Winks breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Winks closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ape to the mat! Ape manages to get full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ape can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Winks controls the pace.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ape pulls Winks in close to his closed guard and prevents Winks from doing any damage or advancing position.

Ape is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ape wants to get up but he can't break Winks's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

and Ape counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Ape has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Winks is on him like a limpet, forcing Ape back against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Grey Ape showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Winks's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Winks lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Ape has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Ape and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Ape! But no joy.
Winks looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ape throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Winks sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Ape lunges at Winks with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Winks's hand.

Winks looking to sit in guard and control but Ape gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Winks blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Grey Ape seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ape enables Winks to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ape manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Winks stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ape swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Winks wants to control from the top but Ape keeps moving.
Winks is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Ape is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Grey Ape.
I think Ape has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
