PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chapo Guzman (ranked 24771 p4p, 6304 weight class) and Shane Dawggen (ranked 594 p4p, 565 weight class). Shane Dawggen will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chapo Guzman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shane Dawggen!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guzman takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Dawggen fails in his attempt to clinch.
Guzman lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Dawggen circles away quickly and effectively.
Dawggen takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Dawggen lands an overhand right.
Dawggen scores with a push kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dawggen enables Guzman to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dawggen manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Dawggen wants to stand and escape but Guzman is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Guzman advances position into side control!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dawggen is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Guzman tries for a kimura but Dawggen is defending well.
Dawggen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Guzman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Guzman stands up.
Guzman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Guzman shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dawggen napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Dawggen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Guzman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Dawggen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Guzman wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Guzman trying to control the action but Dawggen is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dawggen tries to bench press Guzman off him but Guzman keeps the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Guzman throws a strike aimed at the side of Dawggen's head but Dawggen avoids it well.
Dawggen is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Guzman stands up.
A swing and a miss from Dawggen.
A little feinted left hand from Guzman on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Guzman gets a takedown into half guard.

Guzman is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Guzman seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dawggen is looking for a sweep. Guzman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Guzman sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Dawggen defending well though.
Dawggen wants to improve his position but Guzman is controlling well.
Dawggen looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Guzman lands with a punch from half guard.
Dawggen is trying to get back to full guard.
Guzman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Dawggen wants to get back to full guard.
Guzman scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Guzman lands strikes from half guard.
Guzman not doing much here.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Guzman frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Dawggen really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Guzman controlling his opponent.
Dawggen is trying to escape the mount.
Guzman landing strikes from the mount and Dawggen is in trouble!
Guzman trying to control but Dawggen is having none of it.

Dawggen is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Guzman lands a nice shot to the head.
Guzman with shots to the head and body - Dawggen looks very uncomfortable down there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Guzman postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dawggen looks a forlorn figure.
Dawggen is looking to improve his position but Guzman isn't that keen on the idea.

Guzman has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Dawggen's face.
Guzman postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Dawggen looks a forlorn figure.
Dawggen is looking to get to half guard.
Guzman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Guzman lands a heavy elbow.

Dawggen is rocked!
Dawggen takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Chapo Guzman dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Guzman takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Dawggen connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Dawggen dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dawggen cracks Guzman on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Guzman falls backwards against the cage. Dawggen follows up with more strikes that drop Guzman to his knees. Dawggen keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Guzman! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Shane Dawggen!
Shane Dawggen really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Voodoo Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
