PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Arod Doyea (ranked 3048 p4p, 1178 weight class) and Sampson Shain (ranked 325 p4p, 143 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Arod Doyea!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 27 - 19 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sampson Shain!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Thiago Cunha and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Doyea checks a leg kick.
Doyea tries to counter by clinching up but Shain breaks away and moves out of range.
Shain drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
We've been hearing reports that Doyea has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Shain gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Doyea managing to block the knees to the body from Shain.
A head punch on the inside from Shain fails to land.
Shain working aggressively here.
Doyea tries for a takedown. No joy.
Doyea jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Shain walks away with a smile on his face. Doyea gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
A good leg kick by Shain.
Doyea lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Doyea is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Shain misses with a few strikes there.
No luck for Doyea with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Arod Doyea. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Doyea takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Doyea tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shain swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Doyea gets a double leg takedown into Shain's guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Shain is trying to control the position but Doyea postures up.
Shain controlling Doyea's posture.

Doyea stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shain swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Doyea pushing down on Shain's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Shain looks like he's trying to stand up.
Shain trying to control from the bottom.
Shain is looking to improve his position.
Shain is trying to control but Doyea manages to pass to mount!
Doyea seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Shain is holding on tight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Doyea wants to control the pace but Shain is squirming around nicely.
Shain stops Doyea from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.
Doyea tries to control but Shain wriggling away.
Shain felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Doyea swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Shain is now in Doyea's guard. A big mistake from Doyea there, giving up the dominant position!
Doyea tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Doyea working for a triangle but Shain defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doyea lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Shain working a defensive guard but Doyea manages to pass into side control anyway.
Shain gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Shain is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Doyea has taken his back.
Doyea controlling the position well here. Shain rolled but Doyea kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Doyea is working for the choke. I would put my money on him to finish from this position. He's rolled onto his back and has dragged Shain with him. Shain is trying to defend but Doyea has an arm under the chin now! Shain grimaces and is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Arod Doyea!
Our winner, Arod Doyea, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
