Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dani Holguin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Charlie Hall! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and Joseph Jones.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Holguin darts in and clinches Hall up against the cage. Holguin wants a takedown.
Holguin is trying to drag Hall to the mat but Hall just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Hall gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Holguin.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dani Holguin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hall breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hall throws a one two combo.
It looks like Dani Holguin has been cut. Hall throws a head kick that misses. No joy there for Hall, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
It looked like Holguin wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Hall throws a front kick aimed at Holguin's knee but Holguin avoids it well. Holguin takes a swing at Hall's ribcage but misses. Holguin keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Hall. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Holguin shoots in for a double leg but Hall sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Holguin throws a body punch but Hall moves out of range. Hall stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Holguin fails to land the takedown. Hall lands a lovely overhand right.
That's one minute gone in the round. Holguin ducks right into an uppercut from Hall. Holguin throws a body punch but Hall moves out of range. Hall swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. The fighters circle momentarily. Hall darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Holguin is rocked! A looping hook to the body misses from Holguin. Hall does a little dance to reset his feet. Holguin shoots in but Hall avoids the takedown attempt easily. Hall pounces like a tiger and cracks Holguin with a vicious hook! Holguin is down but not out! Hall follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Charlie Hall! During a confident post fight interview, Charlie Hall thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
