PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aaron Falmouth (ranked 4423 p4p, 4393 weight class) and Spaced Soza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aaron Falmouth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Spaced Soza!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Soza wants it to stay on the feet.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Soza has eaten all the pies!
Soza shoots in and drives through. Falmouth sprawls well.
Falmouth tries for a takedown but Soza circles away easily

and Soza counters by moving into the clinch.
Soza throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Falmouths head.

Soza breaks from the clinch.
Soza lands a jab to Falmouth's midsection.
Falmouth misses with a takedown

and Soza counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Soza.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aaron Falmouth. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Soza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Soza moves into the clinch successfully.
The referee is keeping an eye on Soza - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Soza jumps into guard, dragging Falmouth to the mat.

Soza looking to hit a scissor sweep but Falmouth is one step ahead there.

Soza is looking for a triangle but Falmouth pushes his legs off easily.
Falmouth trying to control the position from guard on top but Soza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Falmouth will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Soza looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Soza is trying to control the position but Falmouth postures up.
Falmouth wants to control from the top but Soza keeps moving.
Falmouth knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Soza on the ground.

Soza is pulling down on Falmouth's head to control his posture.

Soza working for a triangle but Falmouth defends it easily.
Falmouth wanted to stand there but Soza had control of the position.
Falmouth wants to control from the top but Soza keeps moving.
Falmouth is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Soza is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Soza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Falmouth's guard.

Soza is pushing down on Falmouth's leg trying to pass to half guard. Falmouth is fighting to maintain full guard but Soza has managed to sneak the leg through.
Soza prevents Falmouth from standing back up.
Falmouth wants to control but Soza is keeping busy.

Soza decides to stand and escape the position.
Falmouth shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Soza as he avoids it easily.
Falmouth fails in his attempt to clinch.

Falmouth is trying hard to land a takedown here. Soza sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Falmouth.
Soza is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Soza tries to roll over but Falmouth keeps him under control.
Falmouth tries to stand but can't do so whilst Soza controls his leg.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Falmouth throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Spaced Soza dominated that round.
That's time! Falmouth's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Soza thumps Falmouth with a low kick.
Soza circles away from the clinch attempt.
Falmouth shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Soza defends it nicely.
Soza leaves Falmouth with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Falmouth tries to clinch there but Soza circles away.
Falmouth moves in looking to clinch but Soza pushes him off.

Soza darts in and clinches Falmouth up against the cage.

Soza pulls guard effortlessly.
Spaced Soza has got the better of the ground game so far.

Soza working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Falmouth doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Falmouth manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Soza has control of Falmouth's left arm, preventing Falmouth from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Soza wants to get back to his feet but Falmouth is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Falmouth tries to stand but Soza is controlling from the bottom.

Falmouth wants to stand and escape but instead Soza has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Falmouth looking for a guillotine here but Soza defends easily.
Soza passes into half guard.
Soza prevents Falmouth from improving his position.

Falmouth is working hard here to advance position.
Soza keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Soza is continuing to stall.
Soza prevents Falmouth from standing back up.
Soza seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Soza stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
A swing and a miss from Soza.
Soza throws a series of punches but Falmouth avoids them all with ease.
Falmouth looks for a takedown but Soza sprawls well.
Soza defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Falmouth.
Soza tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Falmouth moves in looking to clinch but Soza pushes him off.
Falmouth tries a head kick but it misses.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sloppy strikes from Falmouth. Those never looked like landing.

Soza has managed to clinch.

Soza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Spaced Soza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Soza escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Falmouth closes this distance looking for a takedown but Soza circles away.
Soza dives in and grabs Falmouth's left leg, looking for a takedown. Falmouth pushes down on Soza's head and hops out.
Aaron Falmouth is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Falmouth fails with a takedown attempt.
Soza tries a quick counter leg kick but Falmouth is wise to it.

Soza bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Falmouth tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Falmouth defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Soza.

Falmouth is trying to escape the mount.
You get the feeling that Falmouth really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Soza fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Falmouth is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Soza landing shots from mount.
Falmouth wants to hold on but Soza pushes him away.
Soza has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Soza is landing with some decent strikes but Falmouth is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Falmouth tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Soza looking to isolate an arm here. Falmouth doesn't see it coming and as Soza extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Soza!
