PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Giuseppe Amodei (ranked 2236 p4p, 2774 weight class) and Moganesh Jain (ranked 135 p4p, 173 weight class). Jain has chosen The Monkey King as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 16 - 3, fighting out of Las Vegas, Giuseppe Amodei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Moganesh Jain!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Paul Tew and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jain misses with a looping right.
Amodei works the jab nicely.
Amodei throws a sloppy body shot
and Jain counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Amodei thinking.
Jain connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Amodei slips a straight right by Jain.
Amodei looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Jain shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Amodei lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Amodei got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jain has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Amodei has managed to get both his arms back between Jain's legs - danger averted.

Jain wants to control from the top but Amodei keeps moving.

Amodei is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Jain tries to free his leg and advance position but Amodei is retaining full guard.
Amodei looking for a sweep. Not yet Amodei, not yet.
Amodei is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Amodei throws his legs up looking for a submission but Jain uses it to pass to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jain tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Amodei is trying to control Jain's posture but Jain avoids it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Amodei is not content to let Jain control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Amodei manages to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jain wants to free his trapped foot but Amodei is holding on for dear life with his legs.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Moganesh Jain dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Nice straight punches there by Jain. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Jain.

and Jain counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Amodei throws a hook but Jain blocks it.
Amodei thuds his right hand into Jain's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Amodei takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Amodei missing with a left hand there. Jain was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amodei tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jain swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Jain lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Moganesh Jain seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jain swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Amodei throws a low kick, looking for Jain's leg but Jain calmly moves out of range.
Jain moves out of range as Amodei strikes.
Jain throws a counter combo.
Amodei slips a straight right by Jain.
Amodei connects with a body shot that sends Jain's belly button to the back.
The fighters circling - Amodei throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
And Jain tries to counter it with a takedown but Amodei pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Jain misses with a shot to the body
and Amodei counters with an inside leg kick.
Amodei ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

letting Jain counter with a right hand.
Jain walks into a left hand.

Jain throws an overhand right that lands on Amodei's shoulder, as Amodei tries to avoid the shot.
Amodei lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Amodei thows a leg kick but Jain checks it
enabling Jain to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Amodei throws the left hand but Jain avoids the punch easily.
Amodei is looking to slow Jain down with leg kicks.

Amodei tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Jain tries a body shot but Amodei blocks it.
Amodei is looking for a takedown.
Amodei tries to throw a body punch but Jain avoids it by throwing Amodei back against the cage.
Jain lands a right hand.
Jain lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Amodei backwards.
Jain lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Amodei backwards.

Jain misses with a hook to the ribs.
Jain tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Amodei smiles and moves away.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Amodei gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Jain.
Amodei thumps Jain with a low kick.
Jain lands a nice hook to Amodei's body. Amodei takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Jain throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Amodei sees it coming and avoids it easily.
A counter left hand to the body from Amodei misses its target.
Jain misses with a hook. Amodei ducked under it nicely.
Jain throws a body punch but Amodei moves out of range.
Amodei lands with a thumping leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Moganesh Jain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Amodei's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Jain's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.

Amodei throws a leg kick but Jain moved away.

Jain has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Jain avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Jain wants to control the action here but instead Amodei manages to pass to full mount!

Jain is looking to improve his position but Amodei isn't that keen on the idea.
Jain tries to hold on but Amodei postures up.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Amodei wants to take Jain's back here but Jain is holding on to an arm, himself looking to escape.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jain is trying to escape the mount.
Jain has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Jain looking very determined here, making life difficult for Amodei.
Jain wants to control his opponent's hands but Amodei gets his hands free.
Will Amodei go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?

Jain tries to roll but Amodei sticks to his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Amodei wants to control but Jain manages to buck him off and is now in Amodei's guard! Nice work there by Jain!

Giuseppe Amodei has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Jain is sitting in close to Amodei's body. Amodei has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Jain is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Jain is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Amodei.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Giuseppe Amodei!
In his post fight interview, Giuseppe Amodei started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
