PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Darius Perseu (ranked 5308 p4p, 6329 weight class) and Gwafa Hazid (ranked 538 p4p, 604 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Darius Perseu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gwafa Hazid!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Fedor Mirinova and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Perseu feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Perseu's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Perseu makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perseu is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Perseu advances to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Perseu in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perseu passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Hazid!
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hazid can do anything to dispel that myth.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perseu is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Hazid can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perseu is trying to take his opponent's back.

Hazid really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Perseu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Perseu's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Perseu looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Perseu jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Hazid manages to avoid the submission attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Perseu is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hazid knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Perseu is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hazid has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Perseu shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Perseu stays in close to Hazid's body and controls the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Perseu wants to get up but he can't break Hazid's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Perseu drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perseu jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Perseu controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Perseu has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Perseu moves into range and clinches up with Hazid.

Hazid has hold of one of Perseu's legs. Perseu is fighting the takedown attempt but Hazid gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Perseu is looking for a triangle but Hazid pushes his legs off easily.

Perseu continues to stall.
Hazid won't allow Perseu to get back to his feet.

Perseu looking for a guillotine here but Hazid defends easily.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Perseu working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hazid doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hazid manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Perseu is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hazid can do to turn this around?

Perseu has closed the distance and engaged Hazid in a clinch.

Perseu pulls guard.
Perseu looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hazid is one step ahead there.

Perseu is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Perseu pulls Hazid in close to prevent any damage.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Perseu punching from the bottom - just letting Hazid know he's still in a fight.
Perseu is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Darius Perseu dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Perseu seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Perseu slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Hazid takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Darius Perseu overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Perseu tries to stand but Hazid is controlling his head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Perseu lands a few punches from side control.
Perseu in side control lands a decent elbow.
Perseu is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Hazid will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Perseu is trying to get an arm triangle but Hazid is defending well.
Perseu takes a little break here. Hazid wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Perseu advances nicely into full mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Perseu is working for a guillotine from mount but Hazid frees his head quite easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Perseu lands a big shot there that rocks Hazid but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Hazid working to try and regain half guard.
Perseu content just to control the position here.

Well Perseu has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
