PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chief Aztec (ranked 202 p4p, 914 weight class) and Greg Connor (ranked 30 p4p, 105 weight class). Connor has chosen Cherub Rock as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Greg Connor was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chief Aztec!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Greg Connor!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aztec takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Connor throws a right hand that misses
enabling Aztec to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like Greg Connor has been cut.
Connor punishes Aztec's body with a nice straight punch.
Aztec ducks under a wild hook from Connor.
It looked like Aztec wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
A big right from Connor misses.
Connor lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Aztec walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Connor digs a good body shot into Aztec's ribs.
Aztec moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Connor swings and misses with a shot to the body

and Aztec counters with a crisp one two that drops Connor! Aztec thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Connor to his feet! Connor is in big trouble!

Connor is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Connor throws a one two combo.
Connor is still on wobbly legs! Can Aztec finish him?
Connor scores with a jab. Aztec acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

Connor connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Aztec's hands.
Connor seems to have recovered his senses.
Connor tries to clinch

and Aztec counters with a crisp right hand that drops Connor! Aztec lets Connor back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Connor connects with a nice looking jab.

Connor works Aztec's body with a nice hook.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Connor waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Aztec.
Aztec is looking to counter punch.
Connor lands with a nice body punch.
Connor has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Connor looks to land a combination but Aztec avoids it well.
Aztec swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
A left lands for Connor.

Connor changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Connor throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Connor, as that shot connected.
Greg Connor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Connor scores with a three punch combo!
Aztec takes one to the chin there.
Connor misses with a straight left.
Aztec swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Connor tests Aztec's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Aztec slips a jab from Connor.
Aztec was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Connor connects with a looping right hand.
Nice defenses there by Aztec.
Aztec throwing a counter right hand but Connor manages to avoid it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Connor misses with a series of wild punches.
Connor changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Connor clinches.
Connor misses with a punch on the inside.
Connor fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Connor tries to land knees in the clinch but Aztec avoids the damage to the body.
Connor prevents Aztec from breaking the clinch.
Aztec is trying to push Connor away but Connor has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Aztec wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Aztec is trying to break the clinch but Connor has him pressed against the cage.
Aztec blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Aztec breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Connor clobbers Aztec with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Connor jabbing away but nothing is landing.
An attempted straight right counter from Aztec misses the target.
Connor looks to throw the jab but Aztec is out of range.
Connor lands a jab.
Connor throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Connor swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
A little feinted left hand from Aztec on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Aztec takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Connor cracks Aztec with a good jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Connor fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Aztec looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Connor bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Aztec's head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Greg Connor dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Greg Connor's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Aztec misses with a right hand
and Connor connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Connor lunges at Aztec with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Aztec's hand.
Nice jab there from Connor.
Aztec looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
Jab, jab by Connor - just one landing.

Aztec is rocked!
Aztec tries to move into range but Connor moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Oh Aztec is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Connor misses with a jab, cross combination.
A decent looking cross lands there for Connor.
Aztec ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Aztec is looking for a counter combo.
Connor is looking to clinch.
Aztec seems to have got his legs back now.
Connor tries to clinch up.
Aztec walks into a left hand.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Connor connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Aztec momentarily.
Connor cracks Aztec on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Aztec falls backwards against the cage. Connor follows up with more strikes that drop Aztec to his knees. Connor keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Aztec! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Greg Connor!
Greg Connor is the new lightweight champion!
Greg Connor decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
