The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gai goes for a double leg but American avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as American continues to drive forward. Gai tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but American swivels and escapes. American shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than American was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. American has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Gai is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. American yanks on the arm and Gai is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by American.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). All American!
