And in the blue corner, fighting out of Tokyo, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 4 losses; Yoshinobu Tokugawa!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.


The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

Tokugawa clinches.

Tokugawa jumps guard.
Boesku controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Boesku wants to control from the top but Tokugawa keeps moving.
Boesku looking to sit in guard and control but Tokugawa gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Boesku keeping moving, preventing Tokugawa from controlling successfully.
Tokugawa is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Boesku working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tokugawa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Tokugawa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Tokugawa tries to free his leg and advance position but Boesku is retaining full guard.

Boesku looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Tokugawa wants to control from the top but Boesku keeps moving.
Boesku seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Tokugawa slips nicely into half guard.

Tokugawa is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Boesku wants to control but Tokugawa is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Boesku tries to get to full guard but Tokugawa has control of the leg.

Tokugawa is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Boesku is trying to maintain the position but Tokugawa is very close to passing his half guard.
Boesku is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Tokugawa's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Tokugawa's back!

Tokugawa felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Boesku has got one arm under Tokugawa's chin. This could be trouble... Tokugawa trying to control the other hand but Boesku gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Tokugawa has tapped out! The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Roman Boesku!
