PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Neda Teixeira (ranked 4375 p4p, 4687 weight class) and Pete Zrelak (ranked 461 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Neda Teixeira!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pete Zrelak!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Teixeira gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Teixeira stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zrelak swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Zrelak pulls Teixeira in close to prevent any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Teixeira drops back looking for a leg! Zrelak is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Zrelak manages to kick Teixeira off! Teixeira jumps back into Zrelak's guard.
Zrelak has his hands on Teixeira's head, controlling the position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zrelak controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Teixeira is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Zrelak defends well.

Teixeira wants to control but Zrelak passes easily into half guard.

Teixeira has hold of Zrelak's hands but Zrelak slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Teixeira might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Zrelak passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Teixeira!
Zrelak controlling the pace for now.

Zrelak gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

Zrelak fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Teixeira sprawls well initially but Zrelak persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Zrelak in particular looking to stall.
Zrelak is pressing down on Teixeira's thigh, looking to free his foot. Teixeira is holding on for now.

Zrelak stands up and beckons Teixeira to join him on the feet.
Zrelak will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Teixeira attempts a counter takedown but Zrelak avoids it well and moves away.

Zrelak darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Teixeira is breathing heavily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pete Zrelak dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Zrelak forces Teixeira back against the cage and clinches.
Teixeira blocks an elbow strike.
Teixeira jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Zrelak walks away with a smile on his face. Teixeira gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Zrelak throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Teixeira was covering up waiting for the punch and Zrelak finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Teixeira is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zrelak is aware though and is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Zrelak stays in close to Teixeira's body and controls the position.

Zrelak got a little sloppy there for a moment and Teixeira has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Zrelak has managed to get both his arms back between Teixeira's legs - danger averted.

Teixeira looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Zrelak is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Teixeira escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Zrelak gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Zrelak slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Zrelak lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Teixeira is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Zrelak seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Teixeira is working an open guard so Zrelak takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Zrelak bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Zrelak creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Teixeira takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Zrelak is trying to get an arm triangle but Teixeira is defending well.
Zrelak is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Zrelak advances to full mount.
Zrelak landing punches.
Zrelak breaks from Teixeira's wrist control and lands an elbow.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Teixeira tries to reverse the position but Zrelak maintains control.
Zrelak controlling the pace for now.
Zrelak lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Teixeira hang on?
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Teixeira is squirming around, avoiding Zrelak's attempts to control the action.

Zrelak moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Teixeira has worked his arm free - good work by Teixeira!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pete Zrelak showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Zrelak shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Teixeira is trying to defend but Zrelak finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Zrelak winds up and cracks Teixeira with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Zrelak is trying to control the action in half guard but Teixeira is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Teixeira is looking for a sweep. Zrelak is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Zrelak is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Zrelak wants to take a breather but Teixeira is having none of it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Zrelak is working for a kimura but Teixeira is defending it quite comfortably.
Zrelak wants to control but Teixeira is keeping him busy.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Teixeira misses with a head kick.

Zrelak gets the takedown into side control.
Teixeira wants to control but Zrelak postures up.
Zrelak cracks Teixeira with a big elbow.
Zrelak has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Zrelak decides to stand back up. Zrelak steps back and let's Teixeira get back to his feet.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Neda Teixeira has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Pete Zrelak is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Zrelak feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well Zrelak has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
