PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Shortman (ranked 5663 p4p, 5630 weight class) and Luke Isomonsi (ranked 170 p4p, 169 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, James Shortman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luke Isomonsi!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Isomonsi gets a clinch.
Isomonsi unloads a knee to the mid-section. Shortman lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Shortman is trying to pull guard but Isomonsi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Isomonsi is working for takedown but Shortman is calmly controlling the position for now.
Isomonsi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Isomonsi has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Shortman avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
James Shortman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Isomonsi.
Shortman is looking for a takedown.
Isomonsi jumps guard but Shortman turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Isomonsi blocking some punches.
Shortman prevents the takedown attempt.
Shortman tries to stall but Isomonsi uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Isomonsi's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Shortman stuffs the takedown.
Shortman falls off balance throwing a combination
and Isomonsi counters with a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Isomonsi closes the distance and clinches.
Shortman is trying to pull guard but Isomonsi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Isomonsi fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Isomonsi escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Shortman takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Shortman is looking to clinch.
As Shortman backs off Isomonsi throws a huge counter combo but Shortman manages to avoid it all.
Shortman fails with the takedown.

Shortman throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Isomonsi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Shortman is in Isomonsi's guard.
Shortman not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Isomonsi trying to strike off his back.
Shortman working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Shortman gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Shortman shoots and misses
and Isomonsi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Isomonsi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Shortman tries to avoid it but Isomonsi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Shortman to the ground. Shortman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Shortman tries to clinch up but Isomonsi circles away and keeps his distance.
Isomonsi throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Shortman stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Isomonsi.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shortman defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Isomonsi.
Isomonsi looks winded!
Shortman tries to clinch but Isomonsi moves out of range.
Isomonsi fails with the takedown.
Shortman misses with a body kick.
Shortman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Isomonsi defends well and Shortman ends up having to push Isomonsi into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Shortman manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Shortman has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Isomonsi should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Shortman has tightened it up now! Isomonsi should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). James Shortman!
