PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between JJ Moss (ranked 4123 p4p, 4294 weight class) and Pierre Fortin (ranked 433 p4p, 451 weight class). JJ Moss has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, JJ Moss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pierre Fortin!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Matti Vanhoillinen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fortin swings widly with a right hand

and Moss moves into the clinch.
Moss misses with a punch on the inside.

Fortin breaks the clinch.
Moss avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Fortin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Fortin wants it to stay on the feet.
Fortin lands a leg kick that knocks Moss off balance momentarily.
Fortin is looking to clinch but Moss is avoiding it.
Fortin tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Moss counters with a nice double leg into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Moss avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Moss passes into half guard.
Moss definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Moss content to control rather than advance.
Moss not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Moss trying to control from Fortin's half guard. Fortin has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Fortin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Moss. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Fortin trying to keep a closed guard but Moss is proving a slippery customer.
Fortin trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Moss throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Fortin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Fortin working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Moss has passed into half guard!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Moss throwing shots but Fortin is blocking nicely.

Moss is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fortin is looking to control Moss's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fortin avoid being mounted?

Fortin is defending against the submission attempts here by Moss.

Moss with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Fortin is trying to get back to full guard.

Moss is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fortin is just riding it out for now. Moss eventually gives up the hold.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Moss is working for a kimura but Fortin is defending it quite comfortably.
Fortin wants to control but Moss is keeping busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fortin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Moss haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

JJ Moss dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Moss swats away the attempt to clinch by Fortin.
Fortin has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Fortin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Moss is looking to counter the offense by Fortin and move into the clinch.
Fortin waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Moss.
Moss darts in looking for a takedown but Fortin gets double underhooks and turns Moss into the cage.
Fortin looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Fortin throws a punch but it's blocked by Moss.
Moss keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Fortin's efforts to push away.
Fortin has Moss pressed against the cage, preventing Moss from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Fortin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fortin scores with a kick to the body.
Good leg kick by Fortin.
Pierre Fortin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fortin shoots in and drives through. Moss sprawls well.
Fortin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Fortin misses with an attempted mid kick.
Moss is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fortin can do to turn this around?

Moss ducks under a wild hook from Fortin.
Fortin is looking to clinch.
Moss tries to counter with a takedown but Fortin is quick to defend against it.
Moss misses with a hook.

Fortin parries the strikes from Moss easily there. Moss is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Fortin to escape.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Moss is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Fortin is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
