PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jack Reacher (ranked 3642 p4p, 4987 weight class) and Harald Thor Hafnfjord (ranked 0 p4p, 520 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reacher darts in looking for a takedown but Hafnfjord gets double underhooks and turns Reacher into the cage.

Reacher ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Reacher no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Hafnfjord wants to stand and escape but instead Reacher has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Reacher with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Reacher gets to his feet - Hafnfjord follows without any prompting.

Reacher won't allow Hafnfjord to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Reacher keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Hafnfjord's head.
Hafnfjord really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Reacher. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Hafnfjord is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Reacher presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Hafnfjord got a little sloppy there for a moment and Reacher has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hafnfjord has managed to get both his arms back between Reacher's legs - danger averted.

Reacher has control of Hafnfjord's left arm, preventing Hafnfjord from doing any damage.
Hafnfjord wants to stand but Reacher has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Hafnfjord is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Reacher manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Reacher breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reacher scores with a one two! Hafnfjord had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Reacher really is a fat lump.

Reacher fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hafnfjord to the ground. Reacher is now in Hafnfjord's guard.
Hafnfjord is looking to stand back up but Reacher counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hafnfjord.

Hafnfjord tries to kick Reacher off but Reacher keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Reacher is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hafnfjord looks like he's trying to stand up.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Hafnfjord uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Reacher.

That's time! Reacher's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hafnfjord swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Reacher closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Reacher goes for a takedown in the clinch but Hafnfjord prevents it.
Hafnfjord wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hafnfjord tries to work over Reacher's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Reacher wants to take the fight to the mat but Hafnfjord manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Reacher. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hafnfjord misses with a hook to the ribs.

Reacher has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hafnfjord avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Hafnfjord comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hafnfjord stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Reacher shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Reacher might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hafnfjord wants to stand and escape but Reacher is having none of it.
Reacher not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hafnfjord is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Reacher is controlling him.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Hafnfjord is wriggling around but Reacher manages to pass to half guard.

Reacher shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Harald Thor Hafnfjord seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Reacher counters with a head kick.
Reacher scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Reacher shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Reacher showed some decent athleticism there.
Hafnfjord tries to kick Reacher off in order to stand up. Reacher Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hafnfjord wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That was a close second round but I would say that Jack Reacher will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!

Hafnfjord wants to get back to his feet but in bucking up he's left an arm hanging out! Reacher has locked onto it and has pulled off a slick armbar! Hafnfjord taps furiously! This one is all over!
