PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jake Redd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Knox Yodsenklai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Redd comes to the cage accompanied by We Will Rock You. Yodsenklai comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Traditional Wai Kru kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jake Redd!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Knox Yodsenklai!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Glass and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Redd shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Yodsenklai as he avoids it easily.
Yodsenklai avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Yodsenklai keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Horrible takedown by Redd or perhaps it was just good defense by Yodsenklai which made him look bad.
Redd changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yodsenklai tries to avoid it but Redd manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yodsenklai to the ground. Yodsenklai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Redd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yodsenklai throws a head kick but Redd moves out of range.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Redd.

Redd goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Yodsenklai has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Redd but great work by Yodsenklai.
Redd tries to bench press Yodsenklai off him but Yodsenklai keeps the position.

Redd is looking to regain half guard here but Yodsenklai keeps moving and retains side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Redd looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Jake Redd seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A nice inside leg kick there by Yodsenklai. That's going to slow Redd down.

Redd shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Redd is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Yodsenklai pulls his head out easily.
Redd is looking for a sweep. Yodsenklai is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Redd is refusing to be controlled, as Yodsenklai sits in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Knox Yodsenklai will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Redd closes this distance looking for a takedown but Yodsenklai circles away.
Redd shoots in and drives through. Yodsenklai sprawls well.
Yodsenklai stuffs the takedown attempt from Redd. Redd gets slowly back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Redd looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Redd working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yodsenklai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yodsenklai manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Redd looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Yodsenklai has picked Redd up and slammed him! Redd can't keep hold of the triangle and Yodsenklai manages to pass to side control!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Yodsenklai must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Redd has his foot on Yodsenklai's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Yodsenklai works his way back into a safe position though.

Redd shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Redd showed some decent athleticism there.

Redd is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Yodsenklai doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Redd.
Yodsenklai is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Redd's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Redd's back!

Yodsenklai keeps control of the position as Redd tries to break free.
Redd is working hard here to advance position.
Redd manages to reverse the position and now he's in Yodsenklai's guard. Nice work there by Redd.

Redd is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Yodsenklai is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Yodsenklai has escaped and now he's on top!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Redd looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Yodsenklai has picked Redd up and slammed him! Redd can't keep hold of the triangle and Yodsenklai manages to pass to side control!

Yodsenklai prevents Redd from improving his position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Redd looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Redd regains full guard. Nicely done.

Redd escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Yodsenklai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Jake Redd clearly takes that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Yodsenklai scoring well with a low kick there.
Redd moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Yodsenklai throws a head kick that misses.
Redd shoots in looking for a takedown. Yodsenklai tries to sprawl out of it but Redd keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yodsenklai manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Redd looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Yodsenklai is fending him off so far but Redd persists. Nope, Yodsenklai circles away and we're back to standing.
Yodsenklai jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Redd changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Yodsenklai tries to avoid it but Redd manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Yodsenklai to the ground. Yodsenklai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Redd. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fight stays on the outside here - Yodsenklai looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Yodsenklai, right into the meat.

enabling Yodsenklai to counter with a crisp jab.

Redd has his takedown stuffed
and Yodsenklai counters with a three punch combo that has Redd backing up. Redd nods at Yodsenklai to acknowledge the strikes.
Yodsenklai feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Redd's calf.
Yodsenklai lands a nice shot that snaps Redd's head back.
Yodsenklai throws a nice looking combination but Redd bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Redd drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Redd trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Yodsenklai is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Redd pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Yodsenklai is keeping the position for now.

Redd drops back, looking for a kneebar! Yodsenklai looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Yodsenklai looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Yodsenklai!

Redd is looking to reverse the position.
Redd regains half guard.
Yodsenklai perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Redd has hold of a guillotine but he's not going to be able to crank on it really with only half guard, so it's no trouble for Yodsenklai. Oh but Redd has got full guard now! Oh boy! This one could be over very soon! Yodsenklai goes limp - he's gone! Redd jumps up and celebrates with the crowd - fantastic submission finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:05 of round 4, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Jake Redd!
