PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Abdullah Keita (ranked 1955 p4p, 1975 weight class) and Pavel Sekera (ranked 213 p4p, 216 weight class). Sekera has chosen Bleed it out as his entrance music. Pavel Sekera told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Abdullah Keita!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pavel Sekera!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Keita loads up on a big right hand but Sekera slips the punch.
Sekera darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Keita blocks a head kick by Sekera.

Sekera throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Keita was covering up waiting for the punch and Sekera finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sekera slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Sekera tries to move to mount but Keita blocks the move with his legs.
Keita knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sekera on the ground.
Sekera prevents Keita from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sekera trying to control the action but Keita is working from the bottom.

Sekera is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Keita has escaped the position, nice work there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Keita is pushing Sekera's head away, looking to escape. Sekera manages to hold on to the position though.
Keita tries to bench press Sekera off him but Sekera keeps the position.
Sekera trying to control the position but Keita is working away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Keita wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Keita is trying to escape the position but Sekera is controlling the position.

Sekera tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Sekera is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Keita has escaped the position, nice work there.
Keita tries to improve position but can't.
Sekera wants to control but Keita is keeping him busy.
Keita is pushing Sekera's head away, looking to escape. Sekera manages to hold on to the position though.

Sekera looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Keita is trying to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Keita explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Keita throws a nice looking combination but Sekera bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Sekera throws a big counter head kick but Keita avoids it with no problem.

Sekera shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sekera was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Sekera tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Keita is trying to get back to his feet.
My spies in The Scrap Squad inform me that Sekera has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Sekera is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Keita has escaped the position, nice work there.
Sekera controlling the position from side mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sekera is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Keita is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Sekera working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Keita is trying to buck Sekera off.

Sekera is working to tighten his grip on Keita's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Keita has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Sekera is really squeezing tight and eventually Keita passes out! Sekera breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Pavel Sekera!

Pavel Sekera seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
