PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anthony Horn (ranked 24373 p4p, 4579 weight class) and Wanderlei Shogun (ranked 701 p4p, 531 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Anthony Horn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Wanderlei Shogun!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horn lands a glancing blow to the side of Shogun's head.

Shogun moves into range and clinches up with Horn.

Shogun's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A solid leg kick lands there for Horn.
Shogun takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Horn definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Shogun rushes Horn and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Horn letting Shogun take a breather here.

Shogun escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horn misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Horn.
A head kick from Horn lands but Shogun takes it in his stride.

It looks like Wanderlei Shogun has been cut.
Horn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Shogun looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A nice leg kick lands there from Horn.
Horn lands a jab to Shogun's midsection.

Horn tries to keep at a distance but Shogun has taken the fight into the clinch.
Horn is trying to break free.
Horn is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Horn wants to break free but Shogun has control.

Shogun escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Horn buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Anthony Horn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Horn pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Horn keeps Shogun at a distance using the push kick.
Horn fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Shogun.
Horn lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Shogun moves into the clinch.
Shogun pressing his opponent against the cage.
Shogun tries a knee to the head but Horn blocks it.
Horn is trying to force a seperation but Shogun has the dominant position.
Horn tries to break free but Shogun pushes him back against the cage.

Shogun escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck for Shogun with that takedown attempt.
Horn cracks a nice hook into Shogun's ribs.

Shogun gets in close and instigates a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Horn tries to break free but Shogun pushes him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shogun keeps control of Horn as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Shogun has hold of one of Horn's legs. Horn is fighting the takedown attempt but Shogun gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Horn wants to stand up but Shogun is controlling him.
Shogun must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Shogun is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Shogun's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
It looks like Shogun might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Horn looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shogun trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Shogun slips nicely into half guard.
Shogun moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Horn.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shogun working away.
Horn is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Shogun asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Horn can't do much from the bottom here.

Horn is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Shogun has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Horn takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Horn wants to control but Shogun postures up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Horn wants to control but Shogun postures up.
Horn is trying to buck Shogun off.
Shogun is staying tight to Horn's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Horn sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Shogun is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Horn wants to control but Shogun is keeping busy.

Shogun is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Horn doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Shogun.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Shogun lands a nice short elbow.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Anthony Horn will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Wanderlei Shogun's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Horn goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Shogun avoids a kick to the body.
Horn throws a leg kick which misses Shogun's front leg but catches the back leg as Shogun tries to avoid it.
Shogun takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Shogun shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Shogun seems to be looking for submissions.
Wanderlei Shogun has got the better of the ground game so far.
Horn wants to get back to his feet.
Shogun controlling the action here.
Shogun drops an elbow to the side of Horn's head.
Horn is trying to stand.
Horn wants to control but Shogun is keeping busy.

Shogun controlling the action here.
Shogun is nestled in close to Horn, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shogun wants to pass the guard but Horn is defending well.
Shogun controlling the pace.
Horn wants to control but Shogun is keeping busy.
Horn is trying to stand back up but Shogun is controlling him
Shogun has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
You get the feeling that Horn really doesn't like being in this position too much.

Horn tries to lock up and control but Shogun gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Shogun cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Shogun loads up with a big shot that hurts Horn! He's pulled Shogun in close but Shogun has postured up and lands more strikes. Can Horn survive? More strikes from Shogun and Horn is out! The ref jumps in to save him! Brutal ground and pound!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Wanderlei Shogun!
