PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lucen Malevolente (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Heart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Malevolente 's entrance music is Conquer all. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lucen Malevolente !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Heart!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Thiago Cunha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Heart drives through with a takedown into guard.
Malevolente looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Heart controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
I looks like Heart might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Heart accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Heart looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Heart works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Heart keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Heart tries to pass to full mount but Malevolente defends it.
Heart with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Malevolente tries to get to full guard but Heart has control of the leg.
Heart perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Heart has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Heart controlling the position easily from mount.

Despite being in the dominant position, Ricardo Heart just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Heart lands with a nice body punch.

Heart closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Heart changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Malevolente looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Malevolente 's face as Heart controls the position.

Heart is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Malevolente 's shoulder. That is not cool.
Malevolente takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Malevolente is letting Heart control him for a moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Heart feints and as Malevolente raises his hands in defense, Heart changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ricardo Heart has got the better of the ground game so far.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Heart seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Let's hope that Heart has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Heart has managed to clinch.
Heart jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Malevolente walks away with a smile on his face. Heart gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Heart closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Malevolente to the mat! Malevolente manages to get full guard.

Heart stands up and waves to Malevolente to follow him.

Malevolente gets caught flat footed, as Heart shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Heart won't allow Malevolente to sweep him here.
Malevolente can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Heart controls the pace.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Heart showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Heart closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Malevolente is letting Heart control him for a moment.
Heart's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Heart tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Heart is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Malevolente will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

The referee asks Heart politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Heart prefers to stall for the moment though.
Malevolente gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Heart rushes Malevolente and presses him up against the cage.
Malevolente is pressed up against the cage. Heart has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Malevolente down to the mat. Malevolente avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Heart fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Malevolente .
Heart is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Heart gets the takedown into side control.
Malevolente is looking to reverse the position.
Malevolente trying to control but Heart flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
Heart throwing damaging strikes from the back! Malevolente could be in trouble here!
Heart is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

You can see the frustration on Malevolente 's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Malevolente is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Heart.

Well Heart has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
