Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcelo DeAngelis (ranked 1591 p4p, 3660 weight class) and Mike Carpenter (ranked 179 p4p, 376 weight class). Mike Carpenter has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Marcelo DeAngelis's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcelo DeAngelis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Carpenter!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Daniel Blasius and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carpenter shoots in for a takedown but DeAngelis shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Carpenter wants to clinch but DeAngelis slips to the side
and DeAngelis counters with a right hand to the body.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Carpenter has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Carpenter is looking to clinch.
DeAngelis lands a nice leg kick that just misses Carpenter's sensitive parts.
DeAngelis dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Carpenter. That did some damage!
Carpenter misses with a combination
and DeAngelis counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Carpenter tries to close the distance and clinch but DeAngelis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Carpenter shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches DeAngelis napping and manages to drive through into side control!
DeAngelis tries to get back to half guard but can't.
DeAngelis is working to avoid the ground and pound but Carpenter connects with a decent elbow.
Carpenter has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
DeAngelis is being controlled here.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
It looks like Carpenter might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Carpenter has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Carpenter creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Carpenter shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. DeAngelis defends it nicely.
Carpenter tries for a takedown but DeAngelis sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
DeAngelis appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body.

Carpenter drops down looking for an ankle pick but DeAngelis pulls his leg out and moves away.
We've been told by DeAngelis's head coaches at Soul Supremacy Rio that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Carpenter throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
DeAngelis keeps the fight on the outside.
DeAngelis is looking to counter punch.
A slapping leg kick lands for DeAngelis.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Nice straight punches there by DeAngelis. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of DeAngelis.
DeAngelis scores with a nice right hand.
DeAngelis lands a jab to the nose.
Carpenter has his takedown stuffed
and DeAngelis counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Carpenter shoots and misses

DeAngelis lands with a kick to the temple. Carpenter shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Carpenter shoots for a takedown but DeAngelis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Carpenter throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around DeAngelis's waist but DeAngelis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carpenter off to one side.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Carpenter takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Carpenter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but DeAngelis circles away quickly and effectively.
DeAngelis lands a nice hook to Carpenter's body. Carpenter takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

and DeAngelis cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
DeAngelis connects with a leg kick.

DeAngelis moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Carpenter has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from DeAngelis.

and DeAngelis counters with a crisp one two that drops Carpenter! DeAngelis thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Carpenter to his feet! Carpenter is in big trouble!

Carpenter chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before DeAngelis can pounce on him.

DeAngelis lands a big head kick that sends Carpenter tumbling to the mat! DeAngelis takes a step backwards and waves Carpenter back to his feet - he wants the finish!

DeAngelis darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
DeAngelis looks for a left high kick but can't connect. DeAngelis backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Carpenter's temple! It sends Carpenter violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as DeAngelis celebrates and the doctors try to help Carpenter!
