This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 16 wins and 9 losses; Morrison Lee! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 4 losses; Max Holloway! The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way. Holloway closes the distance and clinches up with Lee, looking for a takedown. Holloway pushes Lee against the ropes but Lee circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Holloway shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lee but Lee pushes him off and we're back to square one. Holloway tries for a takedown but Lee sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Lee attempts a counter takedown but Holloway avoids it well and moves away. Morrison Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Holloway. No luck for Holloway with that takedown attempt. Lee shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Holloway's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Lee (2) vs (0) Holloway Lee stands and throws Holloway's legs to the side, diving into side control. Score +3 for passing guard: Lee (5) vs (0) Holloway Lee trying to control the position but Holloway is working away. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Lee working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lee wants to lay and pray for a moment but Holloway keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lee advances to mount. Score +2 for reaching mount: Lee (7) vs (0) Holloway Holloway tries to get back to half guard but can't. Lee wants to control the pace but Holloway is squirming around nicely. Lee is trying to take his opponent's back.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lee can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Holloway is looking to escape. Lee is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Holloway has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Lee trying to control but Holloway is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lee tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Holloway is working to get back to half guard.
Holloway tries to control Lee's head but Lee pushes him back down and moves quickly to lock up an arm here - he's swung around for an armbar! Will he get it??? Yes! Holloway is tapping out! Lovely Jiu Jitsu there!
