Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pat Terrier! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Terrier!
It looks like Jack Johnson has been cut. Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch but Terrier swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Terrier moves into the clinch successfully.
Terrier's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Terrier throws a right hand that Johnson ducks under and follows up with a left that Johnson also avoids with ease. Johnson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Terrier is fending him off so far but Johnson persists. Nope, Terrier circles away and we're back to standing. Johnson is looking to clinch but Terrier is avoiding it.
Terrier throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Johnson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Terrier keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully. Johnson drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Terrier dives on top into guard. Terrier trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Terrier cracks Johnson with a solid left hand. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Johnson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Terrier wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Johnson's closed guard. He's half up but Johnson has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Johnson pivots and extends the arm, Terrier falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Johnson! Well done that man!
