PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mi Shin Ii (ranked 4349 p4p, 5482 weight class) and Gajah Mada (ranked 496 p4p, 546 weight class). Mada has chosen Fighter Mode as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mi Shin Ii!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gajah Mada!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Damien Edna and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shin Ii drives through with a takedown into Mada's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Mada looking for a guillotine here but Shin Ii defends easily.
Shin Ii has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Shin Ii won't allow Mada to get back to his feet.
Mada is trying to keep Shin Ii in close.
Mada being controlled here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mada is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Mada has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Shin Ii is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Mada breaks the clinch.

Mada gets caught napping as Shin Ii dives in and scores a takedown. Mada manages to retain guard.
Shin Ii controlling from the top position.
Mada tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Shin Ii might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Mada has his foot on Shin Ii's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shin Ii works his way back into a safe position though.

Mada throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Shin Ii shoots in and bounces Mada off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Shin Ii's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mada lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mada wants to control from the top but Shin Ii keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mada won't allow Shin Ii to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Shin Ii is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mada is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
It looks like Shin Ii is going to stand back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mi Shin Ii will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mada gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mada is looking to stand back up but Shin Ii counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mada.

Shin Ii is thwarting Mada's attempts to control the position.
Shin Ii is figuring out what he wants to do next.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mada tries to get to full guard but Shin Ii has control of the leg.
Shin Ii is controlling the pace.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mada trying to hold on to Shin Ii's head to control him but Shin Ii postures up.
Mada moves into full guard.

Mada is looking for a triangle but Shin Ii pushes his legs off easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Shin Ii showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Shin Ii slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mada manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Mada wants to control but Shin Ii is keeping busy.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Shin Ii is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Mada is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Shin Ii dives into side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mada wants to control but Shin Ii postures up.

Shin Ii is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mada knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mada tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Mada looking for a sweep but Shin Ii has passed into full mount! Oh no!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Mi Shin Ii dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


Mada bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Shin Ii is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Mada off and has taken his back!
Mada tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Shin Ii stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Mada closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Shin Ii quickly recovers to half guard.
Shin Ii is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Shin Ii manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Mada takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Shin Ii working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mada doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mada manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Mada has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Shin Ii to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Mada is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Shin Ii pulls down on the head and he's put Mada to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mi Shin Ii!
A very excited looking Mi Shin Ii rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
Gajah Mada spoke after the fight, saying 'World please forgive Me'.
