PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Anton Oparin (ranked 4590 p4p, 6962 weight class) and Yuri Boyka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anton Oparin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Boyka!
The judges for this bout are Aleksei Zolotukhin, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oparin bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Who's going to make the next move?
Boyka can't do much from the bottom here.

Oparin swings around for an armbar but Boyka sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Oparin's guard.
Oparin looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Boyka wants to pass the guard but Oparin is keeping the position.
Boyka slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Oparin tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Oparin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Boyka.

You can see the frustration on Oparin's face as Boyka controls the position.
Oparin tries to escape but Boyka is in control.
Oparin manages to work his way to half guard, despite Boyka's best efforts.

Oparin is refusing to be controlled, as Boyka sits in half guard.
Boyka tries to stand but can't do so whilst Oparin controls his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boyka tries to pass to full mount but Oparin defends it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Boyka wants to stand but Oparin has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Oparin tries to roll over but Boyka keeps him under control.
Boyka stops Oparin from getting back to his feet.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Boyka working over Oparin with some ground and pound. Oparin looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Oparin trying to hold on to Boyka's head to control him but Boyka postures up.
Boyka looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Boyka throwing shots but Oparin is blocking nicely.
Boyka uses his free foot to push down on Oparin's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Oparin.

Boyka lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Oparin hang on?
Boyka avoids the attempt from Oparin to control.
Boyka is stalling here but it's allowed Oparin to get half guard.
Boyka tries to stand but can't do so whilst Oparin controls his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Oparin tries to get to full guard but Boyka has control of the leg.
Boyka has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Boyka is controlling the pace.
Boyka wants to control but Oparin is keeping him busy.
Oparin is trying to stand.
Boyka sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Oparin defending well though.
Oparin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boyka on the ground.
Oparin tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Boyka has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Boyka is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Oparin can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Yuri Boyka dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Oparin avoids a punch combination nicely.
Oparin blocks a head kick by Boyka.

Oparin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Oparin lands in his opponent's guard.

Oparin sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Boyka doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Oparin paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Boyka - great work!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Yuri Boyka!
Our winner, Yuri Boyka, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
