PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Medzavi Nwaoge (ranked 4401 p4p, 25046 weight class) and Pelka Lambug (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Medzavi Nwaoge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Pelka Lambug!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lambug fails in his attempt to clinch.
Lambug avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Lambug misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Nwaoge was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Lambug blocks a leg kick.
Nwaoge throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And Lambug tries to counter it with a takedown but Nwaoge pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Lambug clinches up against the cage.
Nwaoge drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Lambug gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Lambug breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lambug slips a jab and a cross from Nwaoge.
Nwaoge connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Nwaoge swats away the attempt to clinch by Lambug.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A shot to the body from Lambug misses
and Nwaoge counters with a two punch combo.
Nwaoge swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Nwaoge throws a nice looking combination but Lambug bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Lambug comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Nwaoge throws out a powerful jab.

Lambug clinches with his opponent.
Lambug stalling the fight.
Nwaoge wants to get back to striking at distance but Lambug won't allow it.
Nwaoge working hard to break the clinch.

Nwaoge escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice defenses there by Lambug.
Lambug is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Nwaoge with a body shot.

Lambug has Nwaoge up against the cage in a clinch.

Lambug breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nwaoge avoids the head kick by Lambug.
Nwaoge will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nwaoge dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Lambug looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Lambug tries to pass to full mount but Nwaoge defends it.

Lambug looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Nwaoge wants to control but Lambug is keeping busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lambug thows a huge punch but Nwaoge dodges it nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nwaoge controlling the position for now.
Lambug is trying to control. Nwaoge wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Nwaoge is trying to control but can't.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
A bone on bone clash there as Lambug blocks the leg kick.
Nwaoge connects with a good right hand that stumbles Lambug. Lambug circles away out of range and recomposes himself.

Lambug darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Nwaoge wants to get back to full guard.

Nwaoge looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lambug really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Nwaoge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Nwaoge gets back to full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Pelka Lambug will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Lambug feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lambug got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nwaoge has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lambug has managed to get both his arms back between Nwaoge's legs - danger averted.
Lambug stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nwaoge swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lambug accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Nwaoge is really struggling to control Lambug but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Lambug trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Nwaoge looking for a sweep. Not yet Nwaoge, not yet.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nwaoge holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Lambug fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Nwaoge avoids it really well and circles away.
Nwaoge takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Nice takedown defense from Nwaoge. No joy for Lambug on that attempt.

Lambug closes the distance and clinches.
Nwaoge scores with a shoulder strike.
Nwaoge has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Lambug after a bit of a struggle.
Lambug changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Nwaoge fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Medzavi Nwaoge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pelka Lambug.
Lambug is breathing heavily.
Nwaoge lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Nwaoge.
Lambug tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nwaoge sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lambug somewhat.

Nwaoge connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Nwaoge is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Nwaoge lands with a shot to the body.
Medzavi Nwaoge is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Lambug fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nwaoge fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Nwaoge connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Nwaoge connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lambug's hands.
Nwaoge scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Nwaoge looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Lambug has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Lambug there as he acknowledges the shot.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nwaoge throws a low kick but Lambug moves out of range easily.
Lambug is looking for the big counter here.
Nwaoge lands a jab to the head.
Nwaoge scores with a jab. Lambug acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
A decent looking cross lands there for Nwaoge.

and Nwaoge counters with a thumping low kick.
Lambug moves out of range of the leg kick from Nwaoge.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Lambug checks the leg kick.
Nwaoge defending well as Lambug loads up on a big left hand.
Nwaoge uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Lambug has time to react.

Lambug gets the takedown into side control.
Lambug tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Nwaoge tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lambug wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Lambug takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Lambug has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Nwaoge's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Nwaoge duly obliges.

Nwaoge scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Nwaoge jabs Lambug to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Lambug tries to clinch but Nwaoge is having none of it.
Lambug shoots for a double leg takedown but Nwaoge sprawls well. He's pushed Lambug's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Lambug tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Nwaoge counters with a straight right hand.
Nwaoge scores with a jab to the jaw.
Nwaoge slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Nwaoge lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Lambug has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye.
Nwaoge scores with a hook to the body. Lambug takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Nwaoge fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Lambug is out of range.

Nwaoge uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Nwaoge cracks Lambug with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Nwaoge closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Lambug moves to clinch but Nwaoge breaks away
and Nwaoge makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Lambug.

And that's the end of the fight!
Medzavi Nwaoge showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Nwaoge has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
