PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Schrute (ranked 3254 p4p, 5812 weight class) and Rich Mahogany (ranked 400 p4p, 574 weight class). Mahogany is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Look Good in Leather. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dwight Schrute!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rich Mahogany!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mahogany dives in for a single leg takedown but Schrute sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Schrute lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Mahogany takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Schrute throws a big shot that misses.

so Mahogany counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mahogany content to stall in guard here.
Schrute is pulling down on Mahogany's head to control his posture.
Mahogany controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Let's hope that Mahogany has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Mahogany has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Schrute throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mahogany is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Schrute tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mahogany was well out of range. Poor timing from Schrute.
Mahogany uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Schrute.
Mahogany shoots in for a takedown but Schrute shows good takedown defense.
Schrute tried to counter with a leg kick but Mahogany avoided it.
Mahogany fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Schrute avoids it really well and circles away.
Dwight Schrute has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rich Mahogany.

Mahogany pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Schrute throws a lazy uppercut
and Mahogany counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Schrute is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Schrute seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Mahogany.
Schrute pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Mahogany back to the cage. Schrute follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

It looks like Rich Mahogany has been cut.
Schrute ducks under a wild hook from Mahogany.
Schrute lands a jab to Mahogany's midsection.
Mahogany closes this distance looking for a takedown but Schrute circles away.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mahogany throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Mahogany lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Schrute's jab looks to have found its range, popping Mahogany under the eye.

Schrute scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Schrute throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Mahogany goes for a double leg but Schrute avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Schrute continues to drive forward.
Mahogany shoots for a double leg takedown but Schrute sprawls well. He's pushed Mahogany's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Mahogany decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Schrute's guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Schrute tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mahogany was well out of range. Poor timing from Schrute.
Dwight Schrute seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mahogany misses with an attempted mid kick.

Mahogany feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mahogany drops back, looking for a kneebar! Schrute looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Schrute looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Schrute!

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!

A swing and a miss from Schrute.
Mahogany closes the distance and clinches up with Schrute, looking for a takedown. Mahogany pushes Schrute against the cage but Schrute circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schrute bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Mahogany's head backwards.
Mahogany fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Schrute ducks under a wild hook from Mahogany.
A jab from Schrute misses.
Mahogany on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mahogany is defended easily by Schrute.
Dwight Schrute has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rich Mahogany.

Mahogany shoots in but Schrute avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Schrute swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Schrute looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mahogany is one step ahead there.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Schrute pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

A slow jab from Schrute misses its intended target.

Mahogany looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Schrute!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schrute is trying to get back to half guard.
Mahogany works to advance to full mount. Schrute defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Mahogany can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Schrute is looking to escape.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

That was a close second round but I would say that Dwight Schrute will probably get the nod.

Schrute throws out a leg kick but Mahogany moves out of range and Schrute only half commits.

Schrute is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Mahogany not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Schrute throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mahogany on the side of the head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Schrute enables Mahogany to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Schrute manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Mahogany replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Schrute blocks it well.

Mahogany takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Schrute throws a hook but Mahogany avoids it easily.
Schrute misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mahogany.
Dwight Schrute is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Mahogany changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Schrute looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Schrute is not content to let Mahogany control the position.
Mahogany takes a little break here. Schrute wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Mahogany tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mahogany is looking to take a break and control but Schrute is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mahogany advances nicely into full mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Mahogany is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Schrute can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Rich Mahogany.
I think Schrute has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
