Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Jerome (ranked 2820 p4p, 2811 weight class) and Wesley Shutes (ranked 365 p4p, 363 weight class). Wesley Shutes has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jack Jerome's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Jerome! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Wesley Shutes! The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shutes throws the left hand but Jerome avoids the punch easily. Jerome feinted with a counter takedown. Shutes throws a leg kick so Jerome counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Jerome stands and throws Shutes's legs to the side, diving into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jerome tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jerome has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Shutes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jerome wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Shutes told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jerome working away. Shutes gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Nice work there by Shutes and Jerome has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Shutes tries to improve position but can't. Shutes sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Shutes trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Jerome avoids the attempt from Shutes to control. Shutes might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Jerome haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jerome wants to control the pace but Shutes is squirming around nicely. We've been hearing good reports from Jerome's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Shutes is trying desperately to improve position.

Jack Jerome dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! An inside leg kick lands from Shutes. Jerome stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Shutes. Shutes moves into range and connects with a jab. Good leg kick by Shutes. Shutes lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jerome at a distance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Shutes with a nice calf kick. Jack Jerome is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. A low kick lands for Shutes.

Jerome works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Shutes looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jerome is one step ahead there. Shutes controls Jerome momentarily but Jerome frees himself.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jerome slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Shutes tries to improve position but can't. Shutes wants to control but Jerome postures up. Jerome goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Shutes rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Jerome's guard! Nice work there by Shutes! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Jerome throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jerome is pulling down on Shutes's head. It's preventing any offense from Shutes, at least for the moment. Shutes controlling from the top position. Jerome keeping moving, preventing Shutes from controlling successfully. Jerome controls Shutes momentarily but Shutes frees himself. Jerome wants to sweep here but Shutes controlling him for the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Jerome trying to control the position.
Shutes chips away with some ground and pound. Jerome looking for a sweep. Not yet Jerome, not yet. Shutes is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Jerome blocks a head kick by Shutes.
Shutes throws a sloppy head kick and Jerome moves out of range easily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jerome takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Shutes lands a nice leg kick that just misses Jerome's sensitive parts. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Wesley Shutes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round! Shutes lands a body shot.

Jerome takes one on the button. A jab from Shutes does it's job there. Shutes keeps Jerome at a distance using the push kick. Shutes finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Shutes has been the more effective fighter overall so far. A control attempt from Shutes but he's now mounted! Shutes is looking to improve his position but Jerome isn't that keen on the idea. Shutes wants to control but Jerome is having none of it. Shutes is trying desperately to improve position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Jerome is fighting to break Shutes's control of his arms but Shutes is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Jack Jerome overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Shutes looking for a guillotine here but Jerome defends easily.
Shutes pulls Jerome in close to prevent any damage. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
