Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don Cortez (ranked 2641 p4p, 22967 weight class) and Dwayne Bryant (ranked 275 p4p, 611 weight class). Dwayne Bryant is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Don Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwayne Bryant!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bryant gets caught flat footed, as Cortez shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Bryant is trying to keep Cortez in close.
Cortez content to stall in guard here.
Bryant striking off his back but it's not causing Cortez any problems.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Cortez's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Bryant throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Cortez wants to pass the guard but Bryant is keeping the position.

Bryant has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cortez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cortez is in close to Bryant's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Bryant escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cortez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cortez advances position into side control!
Bryant has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Cortez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Cortez tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Cortez works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Cortez grinds an elbow into Bryant's temple.
You can see the frustration on Bryant's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cortez lands an elbow.
Cortez connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Bryant some visible discomfort.
Cortez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Bryant down.
Cortez tries to advance to mount but Bryant denies him.
Bryant seems a little lost for a moment, as Cortez dominates the positioning.
Cortez connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Bryant some visible discomfort.
Cortez is staying tight to Bryant's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Cortez cracks Bryant with a big elbow.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bryant tries to bench press Cortez off him but Cortez keeps the position.
Bryant looks winded!
Cortez is chipping away with strikes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cortez lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Bryant down.

Bryant is rocked!
Cortez cracks Bryant with a big right hand but Bryant just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Bryant is still in real trouble! Can Cortez finish him?
Cortez scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh Bryant is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Cortez can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Don Cortez!
Don Cortez decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
