PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akello McGee (ranked 3400 p4p, 4141 weight class) and Panca Pandu (ranked 429 p4p, 495 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Akello McGee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Panca Pandu!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pandu tries a head kick but it misses.

Pandu lands with a kick to the temple. McGee shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

and McGee counters with a left to the body.
Pandu fails in his attempt to clinch.
As Pandu tries to get set, McGee tries to push him back and clinch up but Pandu manages to avoid the attempt.
McGee will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Pandu lands with a kick to the temple. McGee shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
A head kick misses from Pandu.
McGee steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pandu.
McGee takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McGee lands a glancing blow to the side of Pandu's head.
Pandu tries a head kick but it misses.
McGee moves out of range of the body kick.

McGee instigates a clinch.
McGee blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
McGee unloads a knee to the mid-section.
McGee misses with an elbow over the top.
Pandu tries to break the clinch but McGee is controlling the position.
McGee has Pandu pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Pandu manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Pandu.

McGee throws an elbow that misses.
McGee looking to throw knees to the head but Pandu is blocking nicely.
Pandu misses with a hook from the clinch.
Pandu lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of McGee backwards.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, McGee just misses with a elbow thrown towards Pandu's brow.

McGee lands a good knee to the midsection. Pandu won't want to take too many of those.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McGee seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
McGee wants to sweep here but Pandu controlling him for the moment.

McGee has an active guard here but Pandu has managed to pass into half guard.

Pandu wants to work for an arm triangle but McGee is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Pandu wants to lay and pray for a moment but McGee keeps working.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Pandu is pressing down on McGee's thigh, looking to free his foot. McGee is holding on for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
McGee wants to control but Pandu is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Pandu is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for McGee!

McGee really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Still in half guard, Pandu seems content to control.
Pandu's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Panca Pandu dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Akello McGee is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Some bone on bone action there as Pandu checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
McGee steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Pandu. That one must have hurt.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McGee creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
McGee is trying to drag Pandu to the mat but Pandu just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Pandu has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McGee will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

McGee got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pandu has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, McGee has managed to get both his arms back between Pandu's legs - danger averted.
McGee wants to control from the top but Pandu keeps moving.

McGee postures up in Pandu's guard and throws a big left but Pandu blocks it.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

McGee fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pandu avoids it really well and circles away.

Pandu tightens his grip and picks McGee up, before dumping him to the ground. McGee manages to land in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McGee is trying to control the position from the bottom.
McGee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pandu's guard.

McGee has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Pandu is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. McGee is aware though and is defending well.
Panca Pandu is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

McGee thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Panca Pandu comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Pandu has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
