PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Tua (ranked 825 p4p, 548 weight class) and Tyson James (ranked 96 p4p, 75 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 23 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David Tua !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyson James!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Paulo Santos and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tua leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
An attempted straight right counter from Tua misses the target.

Tua gets caught napping as James dives in and scores a takedown. Tua manages to retain guard.
James won't allow Tua to get back to his feet.
James trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Tua bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in James's guard.

James lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Tua is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James gets to his feet. Tua looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

James doesn't succeed with the takedown
letting Tua counter with a right hand.

It looks like Tyson James has been cut.
Tua seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.
James gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Tua counters with a nice right hand that sends James toppling to the canvas! James scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Tua finish him?!
David Tua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyson James.
Tua displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from James.
Tua was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
James changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Tua tries to avoid it but James manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Tua to the ground. Tua escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Tua gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Tua is on top in guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tua 's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Tua tries to stand but James is controlling from the bottom.

Tua stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
James is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tua is controlling him.
Tua pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
James is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tua would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Tua looking to sit in guard and control but James gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

James drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Tua dives on top into guard.

Tua forces his way into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tua is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
James controlling the position well.
Tua not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Tua dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Tyson James's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

James on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A chopping leg kick lands by Tua .
James shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Tua sprawls well. Tua wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. James gets slowly back to his feet.
And Tua counters with a quick kick to the body but James blocks it.
James shoots for a takedown but Tua saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
James shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Tua makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
David Tua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyson James.

and Tua counters with a crisp right hand that drops James! Tua lets James back up to his feet, looking for a finish!

James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Tua as he avoids it easily.
Tua fires out a quick counter leg kick but James just manages to avoid it.
James tries for a takedown but Tua circles away easily
and Tua counters with a powerful cross that connects right on the chin and the lights go out! A massive one punch knock out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). David Tua !
David Tua seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
Tyson James spoke after the fight, saying 'When I am defeated, I stay humble. I'd like to thank my friends, my family, and all of my fans for giving me this career. This was likely the last fight in my career and I just want everybody to know I loved doing this. Thank you all! '.
