PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight kickboxing rules bout between Rob Roy (ranked 22293 p4p, 3840 weight class) and Felipe Cortez (ranked 629 p4p, 411 weight class). Cortez has chosen Vicente Fernandez - El Palenque as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rob Roy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Felipe Cortez!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Kavanagh and Eddie Farnsworth.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cortez checks a leg kick.
Cortez pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Cortez looks to throw the jab but Roy is out of range.
Cortez punishes Roy's body with a nice straight punch.
Roy stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

It looks like Felipe Cortez has been cut.
Roy connects with a crisp jab.

Roy scores with a jab and follows up with an uppercut that drops Cortez to his knees! He bounces straight back to his feet but is forced to take the mandatory standing 8 count before he's allowed to continue. We're back under way and the fighters meet in the middle of the canvas to re-engage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cortez throws a lazy right hand but Roy sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Roy appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Cortez misses with a shot to the body
and Roy counters with a straight right hand that connects right on the button, dropping Cortez face first to the canvas! He's out! He's out cold! No need for a count here - this fight is over!
