PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zayaan Reese (ranked 3932 p4p, 5445 weight class) and William Smyth (ranked 476 p4p, 571 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 1 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Zayaan Reese!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of London, William Smyth!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smyth gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Reese.
Smyth wants to clinch up but Reese keeps it at a distance.
Reese fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Reese gets a clinch.
Reese misses with a hook to the ribs.
Smyth lands a right hand that snaps the head of Reese backwards.
Smyth tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Reese makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Reese pushes Smyth back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Smyth breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smyth wants to clinch up but Reese keeps it at a distance.
Smyth walks forward, straight into a front kick from Reese.
The fight stays on the outside here - Smyth looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Reese lands a jab.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Smyth misses the jab.

Smyth looking to score a takedown here. Reese is defending well but Smyth drives through and ends up in Reese's guard.

Reese scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reese slaps away a takedown attempt from Smyth, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Smyth is defended easily by Reese.
Zayaan Reese has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of William Smyth.
Smyth looks for the body kick but Reese saw that one coming.
Reese looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Reese paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Reese will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Smyth shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Reese but Reese pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Smyth tries to close the distance and clinch but Reese swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smyth fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Reese catches Smyth with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!

Smyth gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Reese.
Reese moves into range and connects with a jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Reese scores with a punch to the head.

Reese throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smyth tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Reese is in Smyth's guard.

Reese decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Smyth looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Reese scores with a hook to the body. Smyth takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Smyth swats away the attempt to clinch by Reese.
Reese lands a jab to the head.
Reese getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Reese uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Smyth has time to react.
Smyth throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Smyth stuns Reese with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Smyth shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Reese manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Smyth is looking to work some ground and pound but Reese has wrist control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Reese keeping moving, preventing Smyth from controlling successfully.

Smyth is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Reese is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Reese has escaped and now he's on top!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Smyth is working an open guard so Reese takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Smyth looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Reese fails with a takedown attempt.
Reese lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Reese works the jab nicely.
Reese moves into range and connects with a jab.
Smyth connects with the punch.
Smyth throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Zayaan Reese seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Smyth tries to clinch up.
Reese moves out of range of the leg kick from Smyth.

Reese has closed the distance and engaged Smyth in a clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
Zayaan Reese showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Reese has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Zayaan Reese rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
