Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steven Christie (ranked 1646 p4p, 2286 weight class) and Michael Barnes (ranked 191 p4p, 257 weight class). Christie comes to the cage accompanied by Amityville. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Christie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Michael Barnes!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barnes throws a right hand that misses
and Christie counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Barnes feints and as Christie raises his hands in defense, Barnes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Barnes is standing up over Christie. Christie looks to escape but Barnes dives into side control.

Christie wants to get back to his feet but Barnes drags him back down.
Barnes trying to control the position but Christie is working away.
Barnes lands a few punches from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barnes with the ground and pound but Christie regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Nice strikes from Barnes there.
Christie is looking to escape.
Barnes trying to mount his opponent but Christie defends it.

Barnes is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Barnes is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Barnes is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Christie is just riding it out for now. Barnes eventually gives up the hold.
Christie is looking to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Barnes is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Barnes throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Barnes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Christie keeps working.
Christie pushes Barnes off looking to stand but Barnes dives back in and keeps control.
Christie is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Barnes scores with a couple of nice shots.

Barnes is trying to work for a kimura but Christie is defending well.

Barnes is working for a kimura but Christie is defending it quite comfortably.
Barnes thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Christie's head.

Barnes not doing much here.
Christie won't allow Barnes to pass to mount.
Christie keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Christie avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Barnes.
Barnes is looking to take a break and control but Christie is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Christie is trying to stand up here but Barnes is controlling him well.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Christie slaps away a takedown attempt from Barnes, before circling back to the center of the mat.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Barnes on the wrong end of a nice hook.
We've been told by Christie's head coaches at Crapollas Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Barnes has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Barnes doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Christie to counter with a crisp jab.

and Christie counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Steven Christie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Barnes.

and Christie counters with a nice uppercut.

Barnes fails to land the takedown.
Barnes throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Christie keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

Barnes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Christie tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Barnes is in Christie's guard.
Barnes throws a big elbow that misses.
Barnes stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Christie swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Steven Christie will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Christie swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Barnes.
Barnes throws a hook but Christie avoids it easily.

Christie ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Christie lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Barnes backs up against the cage.
Christie lands a nice shot to the body.
Barnes has his takedown stuffed
and Christie cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Barnes is rocked!
Barnes fails to land the takedown.
Barnes is still on wobbly legs! Can Christie finish him?
Steven Christie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Michael Barnes.
Christie lands with a right hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Christie throws a monster overhand right that drops Barnes! Christie follows up with more strikes from mount and the fight is all over!
