The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

It looks like Simbali Souvlaki has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Souvlaki is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Gonzales manages to get to full guard.
Souvlaki throws and elbow that misses. Gonzales uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Souvlaki's guard. Nice move by Gonzales!
Souvlaki is looking for a triangle here but Gonzales uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Gonzales gets to mount! Souvlaki was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Gonzales wants to control the pace but Souvlaki is squirming around nicely.

Souvlaki is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
Gonzales bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Gonzales throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Gonzales lands with a kick to the temple. Souvlaki shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Gonzales moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

and Souvlaki counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Gonzales shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Souvlaki as he avoids it easily.
Simbali Souvlaki has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nathan Gonzales.

enabling Souvlaki to counter with a crisp jab.
Souvlaki is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Gonzales throws a head kick but Souvlaki moves out of range.

and Souvlaki counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Souvlaki throws a right and a left that Gonzales avoids nicely.
Nathan Gonzales seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gonzales displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Souvlaki throws out the jab.
Gonzales tries for a takedown but Souvlaki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Souvlaki connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Gonzales! He's out on his feet! Souvlaki rushes in and drops Gonzales with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!
