PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Furnum Pullum (ranked 720 p4p, 1108 weight class) and Augusto Pinochet (ranked 100 p4p, 156 weight class). Pinochet is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: I Need a Pinochet. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Furnum Pullum!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Augusto Pinochet!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pinochet staying out of range there.
Pinochet now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Pullum misses with a takedown
and Pinochet counters with a left and a right that stings Pullum.
Pullum throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pinochet's waist but Pinochet gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pullum off to one side.
Pullum fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Furnum Pullum. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pinochet connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pinochet throws a jab but it's blocked by Pullum.

and Pinochet connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

It looks like Furnum Pullum has been cut.
Pullum looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Pullum misses with a looping right.
We've been informed that Pinochet has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Pullum tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pinochet sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Pullum somewhat.
Pinochet cracks Pullum with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Pinochet connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.

Pullum closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pullum comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Pinochet lands a right hook to the body.
Pinochet takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Pullum misses with an uppercut. Pinochet saw that one coming.
Furnum Pullum seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pullum avoids the body shot from Pinochet.
Pullum tries to clinch up but Pinochet circles away and keeps his distance.

Pullum tries to clinch but Pinochet moves away
and Pinochet counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Pinochet is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

Pullum shoots in but Pinochet avoids the takedown attempt easily.

A left and a right from Pinochet both land. Nice combination.
Pullum tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Pinochet manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Pullum looks to score with a jab to the body but Pinochet is just out of range.
Pullum shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pinochet pinned against the cage. Pinochet gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pullum is really struggling to find his range with his punches. Pinochet's reach advantage is clearly causing him problems.

Pullum is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Pinochet's half guard.

Pullum wants to take a breather but Pinochet is having none of it.

Pullum thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pinochet's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pullum working over Pinochet with some ground and pound. Pinochet looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Augusto Pinochet showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

A telegraphed right hand from Pinochet misses the target.
A quick step to the side and Pullum tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Pinochet gets caught napping as Pullum dives in and scores a takedown. Pinochet manages to retain guard.
Pullum throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Pinochet works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Pinochet has momentary wrist control but Pullum slips an elbow through the middle.
Pullum has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Pullum might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Pullum postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Pinochet is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pullum, into his guard.

It looked like Pullum was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Pinochet.
Pinochet scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Pullum shoots in and drives through. Pinochet sprawls well.
It seemed like Pinochet was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Pullum walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Pullum changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Pinochet looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Pullum scores with a couple of short elbows.
Furnum Pullum overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Pullum tries for a kimura but Pinochet is defending well.
Pinochet can't do much from the bottom here.
Pullum in side control, throwing shots but Pinochet defends.
Pinochet gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Pullum lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Pinochet throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Pullum is looking to clinch.
Pinochet is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Pullum with a body shot.
Pinochet throws a nice head kick!
Pinochet takes a swing at Pullum's ribcage but misses.
A quick step to the side and Pullum tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Pinochet takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Pullum tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Pinochet was well out of range. Poor timing from Pullum.
Pullum is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A countering left hand to the body from Pinochet misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Pinochet enables Pullum to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pinochet manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Furnum Pullum has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Pullum throws a sloppy strike and Pinochet has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Pullum is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Pinochet!

Augusto Pinochet tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
