PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jach Bresnar (ranked 4810 p4p, 5358 weight class) and Castotini Daniel (ranked 471 p4p, 505 weight class). Castotini Daniel struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.3lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Jach Bresnar has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jach Bresnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Castotini Daniel!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Daniel tries to keep at a distance but Bresnar has taken the fight into the clinch.
Bresnar misses with a short punch on the inside.

Bresnar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Bresnar avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Bresnar attempts a counter takedown but Daniel avoids it well and moves away.
Daniel stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Daniel tries to keep at a distance but Bresnar has taken the fight into the clinch.

Bresnar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Daniel is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bresnar is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Daniel shoots in looking for a takedown. Bresnar tries to sprawl out of it but Daniel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bresnar manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Jach Bresnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Castotini Daniel.

Daniel fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bresnar avoids it really well and circles away.

Bresnar is pushing Daniel up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Bresnar has been working on his balance at Puncher's Chance Collective, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Daniel.
Bresnar lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Daniel backwards.

Daniel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bresnar was well out of range. Poor timing from Daniel.

Daniel is wriggling around but Bresnar manages to pass to half guard.

Daniel felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Bresnar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Bresnar has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Bresnar tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bresnar would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
