PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kang Aroo (ranked 3148 p4p, 3438 weight class) and Murilo Figueiredo (ranked 403 p4p, 435 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kang Aroo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Murilo Figueiredo!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Topper Green and Francis DeMontford.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Figueiredo misses with a jab to the body
and Aroo counters with a one-two to the body.
Aroo dodges the punch combination from Figueiredo.
Figueiredo swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Aroo counters with a stiff right hand.
Aroo avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
No joy there for Aroo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Aroo clinches up with Figueiredo and pushes him back against the cage.

Aroo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Figueiredo takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Aroo lands with a shot to the body.
Aroo rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Figueiredo moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aroo takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

It looks like Kang Aroo has been cut.
Some wild striking there from Aroo.
Aroo misses with a double jab.
Aroo misses with a low kick.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A cross from Figueiredo lands.

Figueiredo steps into range and cracks Aroo with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Aroo flops backwards and Figueiredo dives into his guard looking to finish!

Aroo is rocked!
Figueiredo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Aroo works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Oh Aroo is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Aroo wants to stand and escape but Figueiredo is having none of it.
Figueiredo wants to get up but he can't break Aroo's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Aroo seems to have got his legs back now.
Figueiredo throws an elbow that misses. Aroo uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Figueiredo's guard. Nice move by Aroo!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aroo trying to control the position from guard on top but Figueiredo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Figueiredo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Aroo pushes down on Figueiredo's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Figueiredo pushes Aroo off and gets back to his feet.
Figueiredo looks to score with a jab to the body but Aroo is just out of range.
Aroo tries to bum rush Figueiredo with a series of wild strikes but Figueiredo uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Aroo just misses with a punch to the body.
Aroo misses with a two punch combination.
Aroo slips under a jab.
Aroo steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Figueiredo.
Aroo fails in his attempt to clinch.
Figueiredo doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Aroo.
Aroo swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Aroo takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Aroo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Figueiredo but Figueiredo pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Aroo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Figueiredo thuds a left hand into Aroo's body.
Aroo is breathing heavily.

Figueiredo catches Aroo napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Aroo to the canvas!

Figueiredo stands and steps away. Aroo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Figueiredo throws a jab but it's blocked by Aroo.
The fighters circling - Figueiredo throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Figueiredo ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Aroo's jaw. Aroo's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Figueiredo does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.

In his post fight interview, Murilo Figueiredo started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
