PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mike Bard (ranked 3277 p4p, 6268 weight class) and Nemesis Steed (ranked 408 p4p, 628 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Steed's choice of entrance music: The Heavy - Fighting For The Same Thing. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mike Bard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nemesis Steed!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Steve Erwin and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bard fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bard drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Bard changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Bard fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Bard avoids the body shot from Steed.
Steed works the jab nicely.
Steed looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
A nice inside leg kick there by Steed. That's going to slow Bard down.
Steed digs a good body shot into Bard's ribs.
A low kick lands for Steed.
A big right from Bard misses.
A solid leg kick lands there for Bard.
We've been hearing reports that Bard has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Steed takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bard moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Steed lands a big head kick that sends Bard tumbling to the mat! Steed takes a step backwards and waves Bard back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Mike Bard has been cut.

Bard gets a double leg takedown into Steed's guard.
Bard throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Bard stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Steed swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Steed works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bard is working Steed over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Bard wants to pass the guard but Steed is keeping the position.

Bard passes Steed's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Bard missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Steed is trying to get back to full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Steed can do anything to dispel that myth.
Steed is refusing to be controlled, as Bard sits in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bard scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Bard throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Bard working over Steed with some ground and pound. Steed looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Bard thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Steed's head.
Bard is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Steed is hurt! He's hurt bad - Bard fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Steed from any more punishment! Congratulations to Bard! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mike Bard!
Mike Bard was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
The defeated Nemesis Steed had this to say: 'He got lucky is all! The whole WORLD knows Nemesis Steed is the greatest of ALL time!'.
