PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Cotto (ranked 1892 p4p, 2207 weight class) and Semmy Cobb (ranked 66 p4p, 91 weight class). Cobb is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by You dropped the Bomb on me. Semmy Cobb will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 44 - 28 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Cotto!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Semmy Cobb!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cobb bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Cotto's head backwards.
Cobb on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

It looks like Semmy Cobb has been cut.
Cobb throws a hook but Cotto blocks it.
Cobb scores with a three punch combo!

It looks like Miguel Cotto has been cut.
Cobb scores with a jab.
Cobb misses the shot to the body.
Cotto throws a lazy head kick
and Cobb counters with a stiff right hand.
Cotto misses with a straight left.
Cobb throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cotto stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Cotto misses with a head kick.

Cobb lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Cotto sprawling to the canvas. Cobb follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Cotto hang on?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cobb gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cobb throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Cobb misses with a looping right.
A looping hook to the body misses from Cobb. Cotto does a little dance to reset his feet.
Cobb throws a shot from downtown. Cotto moves away and avoids it.
Cotto throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Cobb stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Cobb lands a jab-cross combination.
Semmy Cobb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A jab from Cobb finds it's way through Cotto's defenses.
Cotto throws a lazy uppercut
and Cobb counters with a nice uppercut.
Cobb fails to land with a series of punches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cotto misses with a low kick.
Cobb feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Cottos jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Cotto is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Cobb crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Cotto - the referee stops the clock and Cobb gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Cotto. Cobb manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Oh Cotto is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Cobb circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Cotto to the canvas! Cotto doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Cobb keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:08 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Semmy Cobb!
In his post fight interview, Semmy Cobb started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
In defeat, Miguel Cotto stepped up to the mic, saying 'This is the last fight in my career. I tired... i'm retiring.'.
