PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lazuran Riku (ranked 1438 p4p, 758 weight class) and Josh Morgan (ranked 166 p4p, 92 weight class). Lazuran Riku is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 41 - 15 - 2, fighting out of New York, Lazuran Riku!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Josh Morgan!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Riku with the inside leg kick.
Good exchange - Morgan coming out on top.
A slow jab from Morgan misses its intended target.
Riku tried to counter with a leg kick but Morgan avoided it.
Morgan takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
A low kick from Riku is predictable there

and Morgan counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Morgan pushes down on Riku's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Morgan works his way into side control.
Riku is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Morgan asserts his dominance and retains side control.

The ground and pound from Morgan seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Morgan advances to mount.

Morgan moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Riku has worked his arm free - good work by Riku!
Riku tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Morgan wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Riku pushes Morgan away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Morgan gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Morgan wants to control but Riku is keeping him busy.
Riku looking for a sweep but Morgan has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Morgan looking to control but Riku is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Morgan working the ground and pound effectively.
Morgan lands a big shot there that rocks Riku but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morgan is landing with some decent strikes but Riku is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Morgan goes for an armbar but Riku turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Riku.

Riku got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morgan has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Riku has managed to get both his arms back between Morgan's legs - danger averted.
Riku has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Riku wants to control from the top but Morgan keeps moving.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Morgan has his foot on Riku's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riku works his way back into a safe position though.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morgan is on top in guard.

Morgan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Morgan is looking to advance position but Riku has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Morgan tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Riku tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Morgan wants to hold on but Riku pushes him away.
Morgan is desperately trying to improve his position but Riku has a good base and remains in mount.
Morgan tries to hold on but Riku postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Morgan is wriggling around trying to escape.
Morgan tries to lock up and control but Riku gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Morgan is in all sorts of trouble here.
Riku takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Morgan tries to reverse the position but Riku maintains control.
Riku can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Morgan is looking to escape.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Josh Morgan dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Morgan misses the jab.

Riku throws a quick inside leg kick.
A low kick from Morgan misses
and Riku counters with a leg kick.
Morgan throws a lazy uppercut
and Riku connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Morgan throws a body punch but Riku moves out of range.
Morgan shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Riku as he jumps to the side.
Riku lands a body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Morgan looks to land a right hand but Riku moved out of range.
Riku swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

Riku feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Morgan sprawling to the canvas! Morgan rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Riku finish him?!

Morgan is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Morgan on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Riku. Riku obviously looking to wear him down.
Morgan is still on wobbly legs! Can Riku finish him?
Riku lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
BAM! Riku delivers a spinning backfist that drops Morgan like a ragdoll! This is all oooooveeeer! He was out before he hit the ground!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Spinning Backfist). Lazuran Riku!
In his post fight interview, Lazuran Riku started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
