PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bed Intruder (ranked 355 p4p, 454 weight class) and Radio Active (ranked 44 p4p, 51 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Intruder might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Bed Intruder. The crowd seem to be enjoying Active's choice of entrance music: For Heavy Metal we will die!. Radio Active told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Radio Active!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Yuuki Gou and Tatsuya Matsuyama.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Intruder ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Active moves away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Active lands with a nice body punch.
Active checks a leg kick.
Intruder looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Active feints the counter takedown.
Intruder looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Intruder shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Active as he avoids it easily.
A big right from Active misses.
Active throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Intruder fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Active misses with an uppercut. Intruder saw that one coming.
Active throws a right and a left that Intruder avoids nicely.
Intruder is looking to counter punch.

Active cracks Intruder with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Intruder swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

The fight stays on the outside here - Active looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Intruder half committed to a counter leg kick.

Intruder bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Active gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Active is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Intruder's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Intruder's back!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Intruder breaks Active's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Intruder stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Active swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Intruder with a flurry of punches that miss.
Intruder stays in close to Active's body and controls the position.
Intruder cracks Active with a solid left hand.

Active working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Intruder doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Intruder manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Intruder's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Active looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Intruder avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Active has momentary wrist control but Intruder slips an elbow through the middle.

Active is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Active trying to control the position.
Intruder lands a couple of elbows.
Active keeping moving, preventing Intruder from controlling successfully.

Active is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Intruder defends well.
Active wants to sweep but no luck.
Intruder content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Intruder got a little sloppy there for a moment and Active has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Intruder has managed to get both his arms back between Active's legs - danger averted.
Active is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Intruder postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Active had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Intruder defends it easily.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bed Intruder will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Intruder stuffs the takedown attempt from Active. Active gets slowly back to his feet.
Active looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Active misses with a right hand
and Intruder cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Intruder moves into the clinch.
Intruder is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Active lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Intruder lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Intruder lands a hook that snaps the head of Active backwards.
Active lands a nice uppercut.
Active tries a body shot but Intruder blocks it.
Active lands a body punch in the clinch.
Active tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Intruder pushes Active back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Active breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Intruder looks for a takedown but Active sprawls well.
Active's corner calls for a 1-2. Active obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Intruder throws a leg kick but Active checks it.
Intruder keeps the fight on the outside.

Active works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Radio Active seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Intruder feints and then cracks Active's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Active down.
Intruder uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Active.
Active loads up on a big right hand but Intruder slips the punch.
Intruder avoids the body shot from Active.
Active jabs Intruder to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Active shoots in and gets a takedown into Intruder's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Intruder postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Bed Intruder overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Active lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Active won't allow Intruder to sweep him here.
Active looking to sit in guard and control but Intruder gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Intruder wants to control from the top but Active keeps moving.
Active pulls Intruder in to control the position.

Active is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Intruder has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Intruder has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Active to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Intruder is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Active pulls down on the head and he's put Intruder to sleep! This one is all over!

In his post fight interview, Radio Active started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
