Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vern Schullacks! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Giggle Valentine! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Daniel Blasius and Radbod Blank.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schullacks walks into a stiff left hand from Valentine. Schullacks lands with a shot to the body. Valentine staying out of range there. Schullacks misses with a lunging right hand
letting Valentine counter with a right hand. Schullacks has his takedown stuffed enabling Valentine to counter with a crisp jab. Schullacks misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Valentine.
Valentine throws out a counter right but Schullacks avoids it with no problem. Schullacks throws an off balance right hand
enabling Valentine to counter with a crisp jab. Nice uppercut lands for Valentine. That snapped Schullacks's head back.
Schullacks scores with a jab. Schullacks misses with a right hand and Valentine counters with a stiff right hand. This has been an exciting period of action! Schullacks closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Valentine quickly recovers to half guard. Schullacks is looking to advance position but Valentine won't allow it. Schullacks is trying to control the action in half guard but Valentine is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schullacks perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Valentine has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Schullacks is working away from the top position though. Valentine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Schullacks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Valentine is looking for a sweep. Schullacks is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Schullacks in particular looking to stall. Valentine is staying active underneath Schullacks, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Valentine is trying to maintain the position but Schullacks is very close to passing his half guard. Schullacks wants to control but Valentine is keeping him busy. Schullacks is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Schullacks will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Valentine trying to control but Schullacks postures up.
Still in half guard, Schullacks seems content to control. Schullacks seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Valentine does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Valentine wants to control but Schullacks is keeping busy and won't allow it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Schullacks wants to pass the guard but Valentine is defending well. Schullacks is working hard here to advance position. Valentine desperately trying to maintain half guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Schullacks passes to side control. Schullacks is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position. Schullacks seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Valentine for as long as he can get away with. Schullacks is trying to get an arm triangle but Valentine is defending well. Valentine is trying to control Schullacks's posture but Schullacks avoids it. Schullacks is looking to take a break and control but Valentine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Valentine holds on to Schullacks's head and controls the position momentarily. Valentine can't do much from the bottom here. The referee asks Schullacks politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Schullacks prefers to stall for the moment though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schullacks wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Valentine, who protects the arm well. You can see the frustration on Valentine's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Valentine is not content to let Schullacks control the position. Schullacks is really struggling to control Valentine but he's trying to hold on to the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Vern Schullacks dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Schullacks scores with the left hand. Valentine knows he should have avoided that one. Schullacks throws a predictable looking body shot
and Schullacks takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Schullacks takes one to the chin there. Schullacks misses with an uppercut
and Valentine counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Schullacks misses the shot to the body. Schullacks darts in and out, connecting with a jab. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schullacks scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Schullacks scores with a nice strike. Valentine connects with a single shot there. This has been an exciting period of action! Schullacks misses with a jab to the body
and Valentine counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schullacks throws out a token jab with nothing on it. The fighters circle momentarily. Schullacks darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Schullacks shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Valentine tries to roll over but Schullacks keeps him under control. Valentine controlling the leg, holding on to half guard. Valentine trying to control from the bottom.
Schullacks moves nicely into side control. Schullacks wants to lay and pray for a moment but Valentine keeps working. You can see the frustration on Valentine's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schullacks is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Valentine knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Schullacks is looking to take a break and control but Valentine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Valentine holding on.
